About the Calf Fry

The Calf Fry Festival, featuring the delicacy of ranch culture, is gearing up to feed and entertain the crowds who flock to this Northeastern Oklahoma town on Saturday, September 23. The festivities and cook-offs occur at the Will Rogers Rodeo Grounds, just south of I-44 in Vinita. Sponsored by the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce, the festival’s highlight is the calf fry and BBQ cooking competition, so be sure to arrive early to cast your vote for the ‘People’s Choice Award”.

Visitors interested in more than local food can enjoy a variety of entertainment. See our Facebook event for more information.

The Calf Fry Festival was started in 1979 by rancher/banker Jim Shelton, veterinarian Dr. John Myers, and insurance agent Larry Green. Over the years, it has continued to grow and attract visitors. “Whether you call it a calf fry or a mountain oyster, you won’t want to visit Northeast Oklahoma in June without stopping by the 38th Annual Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off,” General admission is free, and gates open at 11 a.m. Tasting admission is $10 at the entrance. Tasting begins at noon and runs until the fries are gone.
