GRAND LAKE BBQ FESTIVAL On Beautiful Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, Langley
On May 19 and 20, 2017, the South Grand Lake Lions Club will host its seventh annual KCBS sanctioned BBQ Festival. We are expecting a record 48 teams for this event. The purse for this year's event will be $15,000, $5,000 of which has been granted by Smithfield Foods. This will be a day to bring the family out to hear Live Music and taste some great barbecue. We will have the free kids’ zone, with bounce houses, games, prizes, face painting, hula hoop contest and much much more. There will also be a variety of local food and merchandise vendors.
The event will be held this year on the east side of the ball fields where the City of Langley has installed 56 permanent 50 amp RV spots in support of the continued growth of this event. This will allow us to accommodate more competitors, and ultimately increase our support to the community and the Backpack Program. In addition to providing additional purse money, Smithfield is bringing nationally known Pitmaster Darren Warth to prepare bbq samples and have live cooking demonstrations.
Friday night will be a chance to hang out and visit with the competitors. On Saturday, contestants will have the opportunity to enter up to four Meat Entries, with cash prizes for First through Tenth Place in each category, and with Grand Champion taking $2,500 and Reserve Champion $1,800. Live Music will be provided by Jake Flint and Blake Lankford from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The proceeds from this event will benefit the Ketchum Warrior Backpack Program. This year, we were able to send food home for the weekend for 104 students.
BBQ Meals will be prepared by Moo Chew Sooey and will be served by the Lions Club. $8.00 Advance tickets can be purchased at Valley National Bank, Langley Tag Agency, Southern Darlins’ and St. Francis Health System, in Langley, OK. Meal Tickets will be $10.00 at the door.
We invite everyone to come out to the Festival to have a good time and support your community. For information about the competition, please contact Darrel Hicks at 918-261-5422. We still have room for vendors. If you would like to be a vendor, contact Tami Bailey at 918-527-8780.
