Grand Lake Area Celebrates 2018 Fourth of July with Fireworks and Fun

Nothing is as iconically American as the Fourth of July. Towns and communities throughout the Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees area will be celebrating America’s independence this year with a myriad of events.

The options are almost limitless in and around Grand Lake when it comes to getting your patriotic pride on. The family-fun events planned range from watermelon feeds and hot dog-eating contests to enjoying a night with friends and family under a sky filled with booming fireworks.

Local Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks displays are a wonderful way to celebrate our country’s Independence Day. We hope our up-to-date list of local 2018 events inspires you and your family to take a trip out to experience the patriotic celebrations around and above Grand Lake.

Friday, June 29

The Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the Bob McSpadden Annual Fireworks on Friday, June 29, at the Vinita High School football field, off Hope Road and Ashland Street. The gates open at 7:30 p.m., and the fireworks show will begin at dark.

The Independence Day celebration will include a fire truck with sprinkler hose and bounce house for the kids. The Cub Scouts will hold a flag ceremony and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

There also be plenty of food and drinks on hand, including a Kona Ice truck and Italian Ice truck, Maw and Paw kettle corn and dipped cheesecake. In addition, the football boys will have hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks for sale.

Saturday, June 30

The annual fireworks show at Pryor’s Horse Creek Resort will fill the skies above Horse Creek Saturday, June 30.

The fireworks show is a Horse Creek tradition.

“We have been doing it forever, about 25 years or so,” Pryor said. “When we started, it was just small for the people in the park. We’ve been doing a big show for 15 years.”

The fireworks show is open to guests at the resort and the public by water. According to Tyler Pryor, the fireworks are best viewed directly to the east of the iron unfinished bridge.

The fireworks show begins at at dark, around 9:30 p.m. or so.

Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1

The 51st annual Huckleberry Festival kicks off this year at the RFC Event Center, 42162 State Highway 127. Festivities will take place over the course of Saturday, June 30, and Sunday, July 1.

Jay’s Main Street will be hosting a parade, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 30. The RFC Event Center will have live entertainment, at the RFC main outdoor stage.

Monday, July 2

The Wyandotte Nation will be hosting its annual fireworks display at the Pow-Wow grounds Monday, July 2. The public is invited to attend this free event. Parking is also free.

The fireworks will begin at 9:45

Organizers ask that personal fireworks be left at home. Coolers are allowed for soft drinks, but no open fires, grills, alcohol or firearms are allowed.

The Pow-Wow grounds are located on East Highway 60, in Wyandotte.

Bring your chairs and be prepared to be entertained.

Tuesday, July 3

Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc. presents the sixth annual Cliff Elliott Memorial Fireworks Show in Disney Tuesday, July 3.

Come out and join the fun between the Pensacola spillways on Highway 28, in Disney.

The fireworks display will kick off at 9:30 p.m. A live broadcast will also be broadcast on Grove’s own 99.3 FM KGVE.

Everyone is welcome. So load up the kids, the ice chest and the lawn chairs and head out to enjoy the fun.

The City of Grove annual July 3rd Celebration will be held at Wolf Creek Park Tuesday, July 3.

The Grove firefighters will be back at it again this year, representing the city of Grove in this outstanding fireworks display over Wolf Creek Park.

Free watermelon will once again be served by the Grove firefighters. The Southern Drag Boat Association will also have one of its drag boats on display.

Free shuttles will be available to the public to and from Wolf Creek Park. The festivities start at 6 p.m., and the fireworks display kicks off at dark.

Come by land or by Grand. Bring the whole family, and don’t miss one of the biggest displays on Grand Lake.

Wolf Creek Park is located on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees at 963 North 16th St., in Grove.

Giggers Fireworks Show at the Eucha Bridge on Tuesday, July 3 starting around 9:30 p.m.

All giggers that want to participate will meet at the flats at 8:00 p.m. There will be door prizes for the best-decorated boat and also a random drawing for participants.

Wednesday, July 4

Strap in for one of the most extravagant displays over Grand Lake — the Duck Creek fireworks show.

The Duck Creek fireworks display will once again cap off the holiday with an exciting show.

This year’s festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, when the War Birds arrive at the South Grand Lake Airport, in Ketchum, where they will be open to the public for viewing and touching.

The Grand Entry Show will conducted by the War Birds at 7 p.m., followed by an F-16 flyover by the United States Air Force.

At 9:30 p.m., the anticipated fireworks show begins.

Jay’s fireworks display will take place at the RFC Event Center, 42162 State Highway 127, in Jay, on Wednesday, July 4, starting at 8 p.m.

Be sure to bring the whole family out for a night under the lights in the Huckleberry Capital of the World.

Miami’s Fourth of July celebration, Wednesday, July 4, will include activities and games for kids, free hot dogs, live music and a Firework Extravaganza.

Registration for the kids’ games is at 5 p.m. A turtle derby starts at 5:30 p.m. with various other games, including a Sonic hot dog-eating contest, getting under way at 6 p.m.

Free hot dogs will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing as long as the hot dogs last.

In addition, there will be a number of food vendors and concessions, including snow cones and ice cream, available, guaranteeing there will be plenty to eat and drink during the festivities.

The Scotty B Band will perform during the evening. The festivities will conclude at dark with the Firework Extravaganza, a fireworks display sponsored by the City of Miami.

The celebration and fireworks will be held at Riverview Park, 820 S. Main St., in Miami.

Salina Carnival and Fourth of July Festival will be Wednesday July 4 through Saturday, July 7

The family fun begins on Wednesday, July 4, with Salina’s tradition carnival that will run until Saturday, July 7. The fun will conclude with the traditional fireworks show over Lake Hudson on Saturday, July 7.

Bring the family out to Salina for a magical time.

Saturday, July 7

The fireworks will be still flying over Monkey Island this year but from a different location.

The 2018 Monkey Island fireworks display has been moved to the Shangri-La Resort instead of the Grand Lake Regional Airport.

Scheduled for Saturday, July 7, the fireworks display will be visible from both land and water. The fireworks will be shot from a staging area in the parking lot of the public boat ramp between the Shangri-La Chateaus and Shangri-La’s Champions 2 and 3 golf holes.

If you’re not watching from Grand Lake, the “Grand Lawn” in front of the Shangri-La Hotel should be a great spot to see the fireworks. Bring a lawn chair and join the fun.

In addition to the fireworks display, there will be music and lots of fun activities for kids. The event is free and open to the public.

Parking will be available at the Shangri-La Hotel, Eddy’s Lakeside Bar and Shangri-La Marina.
