Grand Lake Area Offers Lots of Spooktacular Fun This Halloween
Whether you’re looking for spooky thrills and chills, family-friendly fun or just want to know where you can get your hands on lots of candy, the Grand Lake area has plenty of festivals, celebrations, and events to ensure the whole family has a spooktacularly good Halloween.
For those who have outgrown trick or treating but still want to have some spooky fun, Grand Lake has plenty to offer as well.
Below is a comprehensive list of kid and family-friendly activities happening around Grand Lake now through Halloween, as well as events where adults can have a howling good time.
Fall-Themed Events
Everyone loves fall and pumpkins and the Mayes County 4-H Fall Festival and Pumpkin Fair Monday, Oct. 14, is celebrating both.
Pumpkin entries from Mayes County 4-H members will be taken from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. a the Extension Office. The entries will be judged at 3 p.m. and then displayed for the public to view beginning at 6 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come see the pumpkins and then join the Mayes County 4-H as it hosts a weenie roast and fellowship around a bonfire.
The Mayes County 4-H Fall Festival and Pumpkin Fair will be held at the Mayes County Fair Grounds, 2212 NE 1st St., in Pryor.

Everyone is invited to join the community of Welch as it celebrates its 16th annual Welch Harvest Days Saturday, Oct. 19.
The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on South Commercial Street in Welch and will feature lots of family-friendly events, including a bakers’ auction, decorated pumpkin contest, game for kids, pet show and car/motorcycle/tractor show, as well as vendors of all kinds and door prizes.
Children are encouraged to wear their costumes and be a part of the Boo-Ha-Ha Parade.
There will also be entertainment throughout the day on the main stage. In addition, lunch will be served at the Fire Department.
The fun-filled day will be topped off with an evening street dance beginning at 8 p.m.

Curtain Climbers Pryor is holding its second annual Fall Festival from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The completely free event will include games, prizes, face painting, popcorn and trunk or treating.
Located at 845 Vann St., Curtain Climbers Pryor hopes to see its past, present and future families at the Fall Festival.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Due to flooding in the field, this year's Route 66 Punkin Chunkin has been cancelled.
Pumpkins will once again be flying through the air at the fifth annual Route 66 Punkin Chunkin - Shootin' on the Route Festival Saturday, Oct. 26.
Hosted by the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce, the high-flying competition will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John’s Tractor Works, 444924 U.S. Highway 60/66 in Vinita.
General admission is $5. Children four and under are free. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on while they watch teams launch pumpkins through the air.
The fun-filled festival will also include food trucks, arts and crafts vendors and entertainment. Free activities for the kids include pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and more.

Sponsored by Shangri-La Golf Club Resort & Marina, the Shangri-La Fall Festival promises Halloween fun for kids of all ages. From 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, the public is invited to attend this free outdoor event that will feature live music by Wanda Watson.
Despite the weather, organizers have announced that the festival is still on. However, due to ground conditions, the Shangri-La Fall Festival will be held on the south lawn of the resort hotel and the cave and patio at Doc’s Bar and Grill, 31000 S. Highway 125, on Monkey Island.
There will be trunk-or-treat and bouncy house fun for the kids and spooky hayrides in the Shangri-La forest, a costume contest and bonfire for the entire family to enjoy. There is a charge for the spooky hayrides, $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 10.
Concessions will also be available, including popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs and chili dogs, Frito chili pies, candy apples, s’mores kits and candy bars, as well as soda, bottled water, hot chocolate, wine and beer.
All concessions are cash or member charge only. No credit or debit cards will be accepted.

The Big Cabin Fire Department invites everyone to come out and enjoy some small town fun at the Big Cabin Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 26. Starting at 2 p.m., the festival will include good food, music, games for the kids, face painting, inflatables and much more!

The Art Goad Elementary School Fall Festival will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. There will be games, food, a book fair and lots of fun.

There will be lots of fall fun at Candy Park Wednesday, Oct. 30. Held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 123 South Main St., in Afton, Candy Park is sponsored by the Assembly of God Church, Trinity Southern Baptist Church, First Christian Church, First Baptist Church and the Afton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Everyone is welcome at Candy Park, which will include inflatables, a trunk or treat contest, a cupcake walk, a costume contest, food and treats, as well as lots of candy.

The Pryor Church of Christ will host a Fall Fest from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Everyone is invited to join in the fun that will include candy, food and games.

Kid and Family-Friendly Fun
Saving Whiskers and Tails (S.W.A.T) invites all pet lovers to come have a Howling Good Time. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the Pryor animal rescue is hosting a fun event for people and pooches (and cats) alike.
Dress your pets up in their favorite most adorable costumes and let them strut their stuff on the “catwalk” during the Pet Costume Parade. There will also be fall portraits, a cakewalk, and prizes, as well as plenty of tricks and treats.
All the fun takes place from noon to 2 p.m. at the S.W.A.T. Shop, 805 NE 1st St., in Pryor.

Rocket Skating Plus is where the fun is this October. The family-friendly skating rink in Grove is holding a Homeschool Costume Party & Skate Friday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Everyone is encouraged to wear a costume. For those who would rather dance than skate, there will be dancing in the center of the skate floor.
Parents are asked to bring a snack or candy for up to 20 students. All drinks will be purchased at the rink.
The cost is $5.30 per student.
Rocket Skating Plus is a vendor for Epic Charter Schools, which will pay for the event for Epic students who have learning funds available. Forms are available at the rink.

Free comics and candy! Need we say more? FTW Game Co. invites everyone to join them for Halloween ComicFest 2019 Saturday, Oct. 26, as they celebrate the comic book industry’s premier fall event.
In addition to the free comics and candy, the event from noon to 2 p.m. will include a Halloween costume contest, kids’ coloring, a photo booth and trick or treating. It will be family fun for all ages.

Scary fun will be crawling all over Disney Island Friday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 27, as Copperwood Lodge hosts its second annual Crawl-O-Ween Off Road Event.
This free, family-fun Halloween bash will definitely have something for everyone. There will be off-road spook trails, contests, and prizes for best-decorated Jeep, best kids’ costume and best pet costume, a Jeep or Treat and much more.
The Jeep or Treat (a trunk or treat) will be Saturday, Oct. 26. All vehicles are welcome. Participating vehicles must be lined up on Main Street by 3 p.m.
The first 100 kids to register for the costume contest at Copperwood Lodge will receive a free treat bag.

In addition to the races, organizers have planned lots of family-fun activities, including karaoke, bonfires, live music, drag racing and more.

Looking for a spooktacular good time on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees? Check out the Thrill Camp Spook Trail at the Grand Lake State Park – Bernice Area — if you dare.
Open from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26, the Thrill Camp Spook Trail will offer fun frights in a festive fall atmosphere. Before darkness falls each night, this Halloween-themed trail will be fun for children of all ages, but after dark, the trail will feature spookier twists and turns.

The Afton Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting House of Fright/Afton Haunted House nightly from Friday, Oct. 25 through Saturday, Nov. 2.
The frightful attraction opens at 7 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends. Admission prices are $5 for ages 13 and up, $3 for children 12 and under and free for children under 5. The family rate is $15, for no more than 5 people.

Arrowhead Yacht Club and the Cherokee Yacht Club and Marina are hosting a Halloween Dance Party/Festival Saturday, Oct. 26, for members only.
The family-friendly event will be held from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to wear their costumes for a night full of fun. The evening will include hayrides, apple bobbing, caramel apples, bonfires, lots of candy, hot chocolate and delicious food. The Halloween Dance Party/Festival will also include a costume contest.

Come on kids, throw on your favorite Halloween costumes and get our skating on! Rocket Skating in Grove is holding its fifth annual Costume Skate from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The costume contest will be held at 8:50 p.m. There will also be hourly prize drawings during the evening.
All ages are welcome. Costumes should be kid-friendly and the normal dress code does apply. For safety reasons, masks may not be worn on the skate floor and accessories may not be carried on the skate floor.
The cost is $6 for two hours, $7.50 for three and $9 for all four hours, plus tax.

Teens and adults ages 12 and up are invited to show off their creative sides and win some cash at the Grove Public Library Pumpkin Carving Contest Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28 and 29.
Bring your scariest, funniest, craziest and coolest already carved pumpkins to the library to compete for the cash prizes to be awarded to the first, second and third place winning pumpkins.
Pumpkins will be accepted beginning on Monday and all entries must be in the library by 4 p.m. Tuesday. Voting starts Tuesday and winners will be announced on Halloween.
Children under 12 and their grown-up(s) are invited to decorate a pumpkin for Halloween at the Grove Public Library Pumpkin Decorating from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The pumpkin decorating will be limited to the first 50 kids. All supplies will be provided.

Community children, ages 3 to 12, are invited to attend the 30th annual Hallelujah Party Thursday, Oct. 31. It will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grove Civic Center, 1720 South Main St., Grove.
Sponsored by area churches and businesses, the Biblically based party is a true Grove and Grand Lake tradition. The event has been providing a safe, fun and free alternative to trick-or-treating for area children for 30 years. The not-to-be-missed party hosted 2,000 children last year. Organizers expect this year’s event to be just as popular.
The Hallelujah Party will have entertainment, more than 50 game booths, great prizes and candy, candy and even more candy. There will also be a food court where concessions can be purchased. The only thing this free kid-friendly party won’t have is anything scary.

Candlewyck Cove Resort LLC is holding its second annual Halloween Spooktacular from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Everyone is invited to attend this free community event, which will feature a variety of carnival games, including balloon pop, ring toss, cupcake walk, toilet paper throw, bean bag toss, lucky ducky, spin the wheel and spider races., music and Halloween bags for candy.
Get a ticket at the entrance to register all your game stops to be eligible for two throws at the dunk tank to win a caramel apple. The first 50 successful dunk tank throws with a full punched ticket will win a caramel apple, sponsored by Sugar’d Spoon Bakery.
New to the Halloween Spooktacular this year, there will be a small food station set up so you can feed the entire family. Get a hot dog or grilled cheese, chips or a cookie, can of pop or water for $3 per person. Cash only.

Families will find plenty of fun activities at the sixth annual Sweet Street event on Route 66 in downtown Miami Thursday, Oct. 31. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the fun, family celebration will include inflatables, games, music, activities, lots of candy and Tuff Trucks on display.
Downtown businesses will be handing out candy during the event, which is hosted by the Miami Regional Chamber of Commerce. Local organizations and churches not located along Route 66 will also be set up to give out candy as well during Sweet Street.
A great alternative to traditional trick or treating in neighborhoods, the event also includes the Boo Ha Ha parade across the stage at the historic Coleman Theatre. Costumed children can parade across the stage, which will be decorated by Miami Little Theater, and pose for pictures.

Additionally, the 100 block of South Adair Street will be closed to traffic so that businesses located in other areas of Pryor’s Commercial Corridor can participate with Trunk or Treat or candy stations.

Do you want to be scared this Halloween? Visit The Asylum and get ready to experience a hallucinogenic trip through the main halls of the asylum. An immersive actor-driven haunted attraction, The Asylum has merged themes with another Oklahoma haunt, Twisted Roots Haunted Hills, to create a shared universe that expands beyond the walls of the hospital!
The Asylum is open from 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Sunday, Oct. 27, with an encore performance on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Parental discretion is advised because the horror is not toned down for anyone, so the show could potentially be traumatizing to smaller children.
Oklahoma Asylum can last between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your participation and how afraid or unafraid you may be.

Little monsters are invited to come Trick-or-Treat in Downtown Grove Saturday, Oct. 26, Several participating merchants will be giving out treats to all the little ghouls and boys who stop by from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Look for a trick-or-treat sign in the windows of participating merchants. Some of these businesses include 1909, The Rusty Willow, LLC, Tulsa Diamond House, Fired Up at Grand Lake, Sugar’d Spoon Bakery, Grand Lake Sports Center and many more.

TRUNK or TREAT EVENTS
Trunk or Treat events bring Halloween to parking lots where costumed kids go from decorated vehicle to decorated vehicle and get candy. Several Grand Lake area communities and organizations will be hosting trunk or treat events this Halloween.
The Life Fellowship Church in Pryor will be hosting Trunk or Treat at Whitaker Park Sunday, Oct. 27. A free community event for the whole family, the Trunk or Treat at Whitaker Park will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. and will feature free candy and inflatables.

Foundation Free Will Baptist Church will present Trunk or Treat Trail at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Everyone is invited to attend this free, fun, family event.

The Jay Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Trunk or Treat from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Delaware County Courthouse Square, 327 South 5th St., in Jay.
Free to the public, the event will include candy, games, prizes and lots of family fun. A costume contest will be held at 6 p.m. at the gazebo.
Trunk-or-treaters need to wait to enter by the Delaware County Museum. No one will be allowed to enter the event before 5:30 p.m.
In case of bad weather, the Trunk or Treat will be moved to the Delaware County Fairgrounds, 38267 U.S. Highway 59.

Calling all ghouls and goblins. The Craig County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a Spooky Trunk & Treat Thursday, Oct. 31. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., everyone is invited to come celebrate Halloween in the Craig County Sheriff’s Office parking lot (next to the Craig County Courthouse in Vinita).
Touch a truck (or two), grab some candy, eat a hot dog and have fun. Everything is free at the Spooky Trunk & Treat. CCSO K-9 officer, Duke, will be there to “paw” autographs and show the ghouls and goblins some love.

Are you brave enough to face the Ghosts of Grove?
Mysterious, fun and informative, the Ghosts of Grove is a haunted history tour unlike anything you’ve ever experienced on Grand Lake.
The tour tells mostly true stories of some of Grove’s “spirited” former residents, some of which residents say have never left.
This two night-only special event takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26. Guests will gather at the Grove Community Center to embark on an approximately 45-minute trolley tour through local sites and local legends. The trolley will depart hourly, beginning at 5 p.m. with the final tour departing at 8 p.m., for a total of four tours per night.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, located in the Grand Lake Visitors Center, 9630 Highway 59 North, in Grove.

Mooney’s Sunset Bar and Grill is holding its annual Halloween Party Friday, Nov. 1. The fun gets started at 7 p.m. and will continue until 2 a.m.
Beginning at 9 p.m. and for one night only, DJ Binger is coming out of retirement and will once again be spinning all your favorite tracks during Mooney’s Halloween Party.
There will also be $2 Jello shots. Mooney’s epic costume contest will start at 11 p.m.

American Legion Dale Peace Post #40 is hosting a Halloween Karaoke and Costume Contest from 8 to 11:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.
Presented by Sundown Entertainment, the evening will feature Tim Robinson. Everyone is invited to wear their best costume and come roll the dice to see if it’s your lucky night.

The fun continues with the Grand Meridian RV, Cabin & Tiny Home Resort Halloween Party and Hog Roast Saturday, Nov. 2.
The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. and will feature live music by Brett and Terri. The duo will be joined on stage by fiddle player Eric Wackerly, making this performance one you don’t want to miss.
The evening will also include a haunted hayride, costume contest with prizes and lots of dancing.
