Ribbon Cutting - Back Porch Ice Cream

Who wants ice cream?! Whether it’s hot outside or not, it’s never a bad time for a delicious scoop of small-batch, handmade ice cream from the Chamber’s newest member: Back Porch Ice Cream.

Located at 3663 Hwy. 59 N, Back Porch Ice Cream is currently open from 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 2 - 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Owner Joanna Baker says that the idea for the business came from a hilarious but not-so-surprising place: pregnancy cravings.

In 2021, Joanna, husband Clayton and daughter Gentry opened the business out of their home. Their sales took off faster than expected and soon they would move into the Muddy Pearl in Downtown Grove. Not long after, the opportunity to move into their own location would come along and so, in November of 2022, Back Porch Ice Cream moved into their current home on Highway 59.

They have an amazing, regularly changing menu of ice cream flavors that always includes a dairy-free option. Some of their most popular flavors include S’mores and Coffee Crunch. Back Porch Ice Cream is a great addition to the community and will be open year-round. Welcome to the Chamber!

Ambassadors attending the Ribbon Cutting were Trudy Richardson, Claudia Stogsdill, Nancy Morgan, Lyanna McKinney, Anne France, Linda Ferguson, Teresa Heilman, Carol Williamson, Sharon Morton and President Cindy Stafford – Grand Lake Newcomers Club, Jacob Wallace – FirsTitle, Jamie Johnson – Grove Nursing Center, Louise Templin – Individual Member, Dalton Homan – Edward Jones, and Ben Hampton – Bank of Grand Lake. Also attending the Ribbon Cutting were Back Porch Ice Cream owners Clayton and Joanna Baker and daughter Gentry, Chamber President Laura Huckabee and Chamber Executive Vice-President Connie King.
