From May to September, Langley is hosting “Movies in the Park,” a series of family-friendly events that are free and open to the public.
The next “Movies in the Park” event, Friday, July 28, will feature a showing of “The Blind Side”.
A unique theater experience, Langley’s “Movies in the Park” events are shown in the south baseball field at the Village Park, which is located at the corner of Park and Pawnee streets in Langley. The movies begin at dark.
Organizers encourage those attending to set up their lawn chairs and blankets an hour or so before the movie begins.
The youth group from the First Christian Church of Langley will be selling snacks and drinks as a fundraiser at each of the movie showings.
If there is a chance of inclement weather, the movie will be shown the following week.
This week’s movie, “The Blind Side,” is rated PG-13. The movie tells the extraordinary real-life story of Michael Oher, a homeless teen who is taken in by an affluent family and offered a second chance at life.
“The Blind Side” is a sports-themed comedy drama about family and Michael’s journey from homelessness to becoming a college All-American and first-round NFL draft pick.
The movie is based on the Michael Lewis best-seller, “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game”.
The movie’s cast is headed by Sandra Bullock, who plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, the woman who welcomed Michael into her family where he became both son and brother. Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Tuohy, which was just one of the many awards the movie received.
“The Blind Side” also was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The film starts at dark Friday, July 28.
The community is invited to be a part of this unique theater experience of watching a movie under the stars.
Two more “Movies in the Park” events are scheduled for this summer, “A Dog’s Purpose” on August 11, “Pete’s Dragon” on August 25 and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” on September 1.
