360GrandLake Team Welcomes New Member
Martha J. Henderson, an award-winning writer and designer, has joined the 360GrandLake team as content editor.
She is responsible for writing and editing news articles, press releases and copy for 360GrandLake.com, as well as assisting clients and co-workers with any projects that need words strung together.
“I’m the type of person who always has a question and wants to know the who, what, where, why and when of any given situation,” Martha said. “My goal is to make sure those questions are answered on our customers’ promo pages and websites. So when people click on their sites, they find all the information they need.”
A veteran of the newspaper business, Martha is making her first foray into marketing at 360GrandLake.com and is excited about this new direction.
“I’ve always worked in newspapers, from circulation and composition to advertising and the newsroom,” Martha said. “360GrandLake and Grand Splash Marketing is pushing me out of my comfort zone, which is newspaper writing and design, and I’m enjoying seeing how my talents and skills can be used on a new medium, the Internet.”
Martha has worked for two large daily newspapers: The Woodward News in northwest Oklahoma, where she was the composition manager, and The Galveston County Daily News in Galveston, Texas, where she was the advertising features writer/editor.
Most recently, she was the design editor/special sections editor at The Pilot, a national award-winning community newspaper that serves the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area of North Carolina.
A native of northwest Oklahoma, Martha is a relative newcomer to the Grand Lake area, moving to Grove in 2015, with her mother, sister and her sister’s shih tzu, Ruthie Belle.
“My father lives in Mustang, and we wanted to move back to be closer to him as well as other family in Oklahoma,” Martha said. “We basically threw a dart at the map, found Grove and moved here.
“We had never been to Grove, had never even heard of Grand Lake, but we like the area and love the people. All in all, I think we’re adjusting to a lake lifestyle pretty well.”
While taking time to get to settled in and get to know the area, Martha freelanced for The Grove Sun and NEOK Casino Connection magazine.
“My last job in North Carolina was focused mainly on graphic design with some writing thrown in. Freelancing for The Grove Sun, writing the #GrandLakeEats series and about area happenings and organizations, like The Playmakers’ productions, Har-Ber Village, the Grand Lake Audubon Society and others, has helped me rediscover how much I enjoy writing,” Martha said.
“360GrandLake gives me an opportunity to tell the stories of Grand Lake businesses and organizations. Through my writing, I’ll not only be able to share their stories, but also help them let others know what they have to offer the people of Grand Lake. And, the best part, I’ll get to learn all about the who, what, where, why and when of everything to do with the Grand Lake area.”
