5,000

Little did we realize, in 2016, that we could achieve this number. 5,000+ Oklahoma dogs have new homes in Colorado. They’re referred to as PAAS dogs and we get wonderful letters from the new families telling us how happy they are because the newest member of their family is a PAAS dog.

Our transfer system really works and the dogs come from municipal shelters and rescues in these towns: Bixby - - - Chickasha - - - Collinsville - - - - Coweta - - - Duncan - - - Enid - - - Mannford - - - Miami - - - Muskogee - - Langley - - - Noble - - - Poteau - - - Sapulpa - - - Sand Springs - - - Tulsa - - - Vinita.

Monday and Tuesday we’re really busy welcoming the dogs scheduled for transport. And we do everything we can to make their stay as pleasant as possible including piped in music for their listening pleasure. It is amazing, with the lights turned low and music in the background, 25 – 35 dogs will be peacefully sleeping or resting in their kennels.

Wednesday we catch our breath and then get ready for our newest adventure - - a spay/neuter clinic either at PAAS in Vinita, Pets for Life in Tahlequah or upcoming locations in this area.

Three and ½ years ago, we had full kennels, a huge waiting list of owner surrenders (people who wanted to surrender their dogs to us) and only a few adoptions. Today, thanks to our relationship with Dumb Friends League, a PAAS dog’s average stay once they arrive in Colorado is 4.5 days - - - yup - - 4.5 days until they’re in a new home.
