Upcoming Events at Shangri-La May 17-23, 2018

Shangri-La Resort was honored Tuesday night with the Oklahoma Travel Industry Association’s highest honor – the “RedBud Award for Best Lodging Property in Oklahoma.” We offer a special thanks to Grove Area Chamber of Commerce President Donnie Crain for nominating us for that prestigious award.

We also take special pride in the fact that 1^st National Bank of Vinita and Grove hosted a Friday evening event at Shangri-La to present their annual “Excellence in Business Award” to Shangri-La owner Eddy Gibbs. What an outstanding honor!

It is obvious that a lot of people are not waiting for the Memorial Weekend to enjoy some quality time at Shangri-La Resort. We are joined at the resort this week by the Boehringer-Ingelheim Group, Oklahoma Veterinary Specialists, Lakehaven Dental, Triad Eye Institute, and the Oklahoma National Association of Housing and Redevelopment, as well as the Andrew Blaney Golf Group, Hobs Apell Golf Group and the Annual Big Red Spring Fling Golf Tournament featuring alumni from the two “Big Red” teams in this part of the country – OU and Nebraska.

Our Couples Mixer is Saturday afternoon at 3:00 with a fun mixture of golf, cocktails, and dinner. The Women’s Golf Association has a regular play dayMonday. 18-holers will be playing a Low Putts format while 9-holers will play Low Net/Low Putts. Monday afternoon, the Home of Hope Special Olympics Golf Team will also be on the course for their regular practice session.

Chef Michael and his culinary crew have a very special Sunday Brunch line-up for the Summit Restaurant this week. The menu includes Lamb Hass Eggs Benedict, a Waffle Club Sandwich, Bourbon Caramel Chocolate French Toast, and a Margherita Frittata with all the trimmings. The regular Buffalo Bar Menu will be available, as well. Remember, too, that summer hours on in effect. The Summit now offers dinner service Thursday-Sunday and lunch service Thursday-Monday. Bar service is available Monday-Wednesday 11:00-6:00, as well – with food available from the expanded menu at The Turnhouse.

You will have a chance to see a television feature story on boat & personal watercraft rentals, yacht charter experiences, and parasailing adventures available from Sail Grand Waterfront at Shangri-La Marina Saturday evening on the “Discover Oklahoma” television program produced by the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation. The program airs at 6:30 Saturday on Channel 8 in Tulsa, Channel 4 in OKC, Channel 7 in Lawton, and Channel 23 in Wichita. If you can’t be in front of a TV, set your DVR!

We were also honored to have Kristi Wallace, Stevie Fernandez, and the crew of the “Living Grand on Grand Lake” television program with us last week. They were shooting two feature stories for upcoming episodes – one feature story on Chef Michael, and another on the JFK boat “Restofus” now on permanent display in the lobby of the hotel. By the way, if you haven’t seen the incredible story with outstanding photographs of Shangri-La in the current travel issue of Oklahoma Today Magazine, check it out. Writer Nathan Gunter and photographer Lori Duckworth outdid themselves on this one!
