Winter Golf Strategy By Steve Pace

Not Golf, but I have to share: I recently had lunch at the famous Clanton's Restaurant (Cafe) in Vinita (Ok) and let me tell you, if you EVER want to taste the best Chicken Strips (Fingers) that you have ever eaten, go there. I mean the best EVER. I'm not saying this because I am a buddy with the owners (Dennis & Melissa Patrick). I'm sharing this because they are so tasty that it's newsworthy.

Winter golf - Adjust your strategy & expectation for winter

Just because it says par 4 on the card and you easily hit the green in 2 in summer does not mean you should expect the same in winter. If you are not going to make it in 2 consider mentally adjusting it to a par 5. Play it as a 3 shotter with a strategy that leaves you a preferred lay-up distance to the hole. This allows you to swing within yourself and maybe use a couple of mid irons to get in position. If you have taken the time to know your winter wedge distance and take account of the soft greens you stand a good chance of producing a satisfying deadly accurate approach to set up a chance of a par/winter birdie. GOLF TIP OF THE WEEK

This tip comes from my good friend Gregg Compton: To insure that you really turn in your backswing, feel your back go to the target as you take the club back and then feel your belly go to the target as you swing through. All the while, keeping your head as still or calm as possible.

GOLF JOKE of THE WEEK

Recently I went in to a new big golf shop in the big city. I shopped and studied and finally selected the new clubs that I wanted. As I was checking out and getting ready to pay, the cashier said “Strip down, Facing me”. Not being sure what was going on and not being used to the big city ways, I did as she asked. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out she was referring to how I should place my credit card in the card reader! I’ve been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions to seniors a little clearer. I still don’t think I looked that bad.

HAPPY GOLFIN !
