August 15 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum

If you weren’t at Grand Lake over the past weekend, you missed a lot of opportunities for fun! Between the Mary Moore Charity Event at Shangri-La, the Woodstock on the Water raft-out celebration, and the big UTV Takeover Event at Mid-America Outdoors, there was truly something for everyone! It’s also fantastic that we scored another big statewide event – the Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association Partnership Championship Tournament at Shangri-La. Yep, Grand Lake is always-something-fun spot in Oklahoma!

I may have finally found a way to make some money. I saw where there is a new dating app aimed exclusively at conservative men & women. It’s called “The Right Stuff.” I’m thinking about putting together a similar dating app for liberals and calling it, “Were you Left?”

*****

I saw where Donald Trump went to New York and took the fifth. I wonder if he would send it to me. Seems like a waste. He doesn’t even drink.

In Oklahoma, it’s election time again. Media outlets will enjoy record-breaking revenue this week from candidates and a bunch of dark-money groups trying to influence your vote. The Primary Run-Off election is next Tuesday, August 23. After that, we can talk about nothing but football until the craziness cranks up again…in about a month. Republicans have some important decisions in this election – especially in the State Superintendent’s race. As for Democrats, it’ll take you about 15 seconds to vote in one of the U.S. Senate races, the only decision on your ballot.

RANDY KREHBIEL’S RANDOM FACTOID OF THE WEEK: Malcolm Loughead patented hydraulic automobile brakes in 1917, a year after he and his brother Allen formed the Loughead Aircraft Company. They would soon change the spelling of their names -- and their companies -- to Lockheed.

*****

FUN FACT OF THE WEEK: The heart of a blue whale can weigh more than 1,300 pounds and is the size of a small car. It beats 8 to 10 times per minute and each heartbeat can be heard from over 2 miles away.

*****

BEST FACEBOOK POST OF THE WEEK: The term “plant based” is the newest meaningless marketing term used to dupe people who know very little about nutrition but who “kinda-sorta” want to eat better. Things that are plant based: sugar, vegetable oils, flour, kid cereals, Jack Daniels, cocaine, heroin…

*****

BEST SIGN SEEN THIS WEEK: We have frozen ice.

*****

BEST TWEET OF THE WEEK: FYI, you pee on a jellyfish sting, not a jelly stain. Again, my apologies to the lady at the Waffle House this morning.

                                                                      *****

BEST PUN OF THE WEEK: I’ve started investing in stocks: beef, chicken, and vegetable. One day I hope to be a bouillonaire.

*****

OBSERVATION OF THE WEEK: My desire to be well informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.

*****

FEEL-OLD MOMENTS OF THE WEEK: Rachel Robinson, Jackie’s widow and baseball’s First Lady, just turned 100 years old. New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle died twenty-seven years ago this week. The Yankees signed him right out of high school for a $1,500 signing bonus and a salary of $140 per month. His highest salary as a Yankee was $100,000 per year.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Listen to the people who are talking about how to fix what’s wrong, not the ones who just work people into a snit over the problems. Listen to the people who have ideas about how to fix things, not the ones who just blame others.” – Molly Ivins

I guess we had this year’s August weather in July. The forecast for the upcoming weekend is a far cry from the last few weeks. We’ll have highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s – mostly sunny with a chance of a few showers Sunday. Enjoy all Grand Lake has to offer, both indoors and out. Remember, though, no matter where you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me!
