January 14 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum
I got my first boating “fix” of the new year over the past weekend. I spent three days wandering through the Oklahoma City Boat & RV Show so I could get a head start on everybody who is waiting for the Tulsa show at the end of the month. Now I’ve already seen most of the new stuff, so I’ll be ready to devote my time to conversation and cocktails (not necessarily in that order) when showtime strikes Tulsa. The OKC show is like the Tulsa show in one sense – it wouldn’t be much of a show without Grand Lake boat dealers. They weren’t all there, but Nichols Marine, Grand Lake Boat Sales, MarineMax, and Ugly John’s provided 75% of the boat display at the show.

Either I’m missing something – or I have discovered the most unusual hobby ever! A guy named Clint Gray walked into a Wells Fargo Branch in California and screamed, “This is a robbery! Everyone get on the floor!” So, everybody did, of course, but Clint never finished the robbery. Instead, he took off all his clothes except his underwear, sat down by the front door of the bank and waited for cops to arrive. When they did, he surrendered without any trouble. Things that make you go, “Hmmmm.”

That’s not as bad as the news out of Cincinnati where substitute teacher Tracey Abraham who has now been banned from school and everyplace else where there might be minors present. Students had reported “unusual activity” behind the teacher’s desk. Authorities caught him in the classroom where he was, in fact, behind the desk…I’m not sure how to explain this….taking matters into his own hands, so to speak. And it wasn’t even anatomy class.

Some people have dogs to protect them. But, there are also a few dogs who have people to protect them. In Oakland, California, a jogger used pepper spray on a dog that attacked her last week. That made the dog’s owner so mad, the attack from her was worse than the attack from her dog. She punched the jogger, knocked her down, and big her so hard she left an open wound. I’m not sure what happened to the dog, but dog owner Alma Cadwalader is still in the pokey.

Have you heard of Cannon Harrison? Most people in McIntosh County in southeastern Oklahoma know him so, when he decided to try a little online dating by filling out a profile for the dating app Bumble, he left out his profession. Before long, a gal responded to his post, saying she had just shot “a bigo buck.” Since rifle season was over, Cannon asked if she shot it with a bow. “Nope.” Did she spotlight it? “Yes.” Then she sent Cannot a photograph of herself with her trophy. That’s when he decided to get together with her. It wasn’t an actual date, though. By the say, Cannon is an Oklahoma Depart, ent of Wildlife Game Warden. Oops!

This weekend’s weather starts with a trick. Friday’s high will be in the low 50s, but don’t trust it! A cold front is set to blow through Friday night. High temperatures Saturday & Sunday will be closer to 30 than 50. Of course, the weather is always great for dining & drinking at Grand Lake in January, so, party on! Remember, though…wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
