November 6th Random Observation of The Grand Lake Bum

Can you believe it’s November and we’re still enjoying beautiful weather, barn dances, golf tournaments, and outstanding fall boating? It’s tough to complain about the weather we’re having. I’ll bet the folks who winterized their boats right after Labor Day are experiencing a few pangs of regret!

Speaking of boating, it’s time to start planning decorations for lakers who are interested in participating in the great Christmas Boat Parade of Lights. If you’re up to the challenge, it’s one of the very best events of the winter on Grand Lake. Contact Cherokee Yacht Club if you’re willing to be a part of the fun – and a challenger for the great prizes for best decorations. Parade date is December 9.

Sometimes the “good guy with a gun” argument just doesn’t work. A shooter at a Colorado Wal-Mart shot and killed three people. Police were instantly on the scene and, of course, Wal-Mart has security video. Unfortunately, so many Wal-Mart shoppers pulled their own guns at the sound of gunfire, it took police several hours to try to separate the innocent gunmen from the guilty ones. Sign of the times, I guess. By the way, none of the good guys with guns did anything that helped stop the bad guy with a gun. Lucky for others, I’m guessing. A multi-gun shootout at a Wal-Mart seems like a pretty bad idea.

Do you like push-backs against political correctness? If so, you’ll probably like the new restroom signs at Dodie’s Place Cajun Bar & Grill in Allen, Texas. Men’s and women’s restrooms are designated by large photos on each door. The men’s room has a photo of Bruce Jenner. The women’s restroom door is adorned with a photo of Caitlyn Jenner – the name chosen by Jenner following a sex change operation.

If you’re trying to avoid a DUI, you might want to stick to the golf cart path on Monkey Island. Sometimes your location means more than your means of transportation. Just ask Donna Byrne. The Polk County, Florida woman obviously thought she was safe riding her horse after a few too many. Unfortunately, the horse had wandered onto the highway, and someone turned her in. She was not only charged with DUI…but also “animal neglect” for failing to properly watch out for her horse.

In San Francisco, some thieves who broke into a UPS truck and stole some cell phones probably don’t have any idea how much trouble they’re in. I’m sure it didn’t occur to them that they would be sought for a $300,000 robbery! The phones were the new iPhone X models, valued at over $1,000 each. Maybe size doesn’t matter after all!

When you’re hungry, you’re hungry, right? Just don’t get carried away. Cops in the small town of Warren, Ohio are still looking for the irate McDonalds customer who pulled through the drive-through at 3:30 a.m. and ordered an Egg McMuffin. When he was told they didn’t have any, he pulled a gun and ordered them to give him one. It didn’t help, by the way. We’re not sure what part of “we don’t have any” he didn’t understand, but I’m sure the District Attorney will explain it to him when the surveillance video leads the cops to his front door.

Ladies, if you’re going to try to get out of an arranged marriage by killing your husband, please plan carefully – and don’t let your mother-in-law come close. In Pakistan, Aasia Bibi has been arrested, when all she wanted to do was poison her husband to get out of an arranged marriage and run off with her boyfriend. She poisoned his milk, but he refused to drink it. Unknowingly, her mother-in-law wandered into the kitchen and used the milk to make yogurt, which she fed to 27 members of her extended family. The husband is still around, but 17 relatives are dead from the poison yogurt. So…when attempting to kill your husband, keep your mother-in-law out of the kitchen! Lake Bum advice of the week!

The weather for the Veterans’ Day weekend ahead is not as good as the one in our rear view mirror, but it’s pretty nice. We’ll have high temperatures in the low 60s with lows in the low 40s – maybe a shower Saturday sometime. There’s lot of fun to enjoy around the lake this weekend – and take a little time to do something special for a veteran on Saturday. Get after it; but be sure and buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me. Or a veteran!
