Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum June 17

I’m not sure what happened on Father’s Day. It looked like a lot of kids just brushed off their Dad’s and told ‘em “Go jump in the lake,” because a bunch of ‘em sure did! What a great day on the lake!

If you’ve been wanting to spend the most time on the water during daylight hours, this is your week! The first official day of summer is Thursday. That means the weekend with the most daylight hours of the entire year is this weekend! Enjoy.

The Grand Lake area is increasingly THE place to go! The Oklahoma Travel Industry Association last week announced the winner in the competition for “Best New Attraction in Oklahoma.” Congratulations to The Battlefield Par 3 Golf Course at Shangri-La Resort for taking top honors!

I spent some time watching a few buddies who are pretty darn good golfers this week, and it left me puzzled about putting. I watched them prepare for a three-foot putt by squatting down to analyze the green, holding up their golf clubs in their line of sight, and standing over the golf ball of an excruciating amount of time before they finally hit it and watched it lip out of the cup and roll three feet the other side of the hole. They promptly reached across the hole and nonchalantly back-handed a swiping, awkward putt as the ball slipped easily into the hole. So…why don’t they always putt like that?

It’s a happy week in the Grand Lake area! With election week behind us, we won’t have to deal with the campaign name-calling and accusations of wrongdoings for another few weeks.  At least election year gives us all something to talk about.

I know all things go through phases & trends, but what’s the deal with crab legs? Did it slip past me that it’s crab season on Grand Lake? Two months ago, you couldn’t find crab legs at any restaurant on the lake. Now, they’re the special at 50% of the restaurants around here. I’m still partial to the shrimp boils. The meat in crab legs is delicious, all right, but it’s not worth the battle to get to it!
