Grand Lake Celebrates Independence Day With Fireworks, Festivals and More

The Grand Lake area will be celebrating our nation’s Independence Day in a big way. Fireworks displays, carnival rides, live music and other patriotic celebrations are planned for the entire week of July 4.

Here’s a rundown on the many family-friendly Fourth of July events taking place in the Grand Lake area:

Saturday, June 29

The Commerce Fire Department and the City of Commerce are sponsoring a 29th of June Fireworks Celebration at the Commerce High School football field on Saturday, June 29.

Gates open at 6 p.m. The festivities will include free watermelon. Hot dogs and water, as well as delicacies from Frozen Elephant Shave Ice and Pig Dig BBQ will be available for purchase.

The football field is located at 420 D St., in Commerce.

Everyone is invited and donations are appreciated.

Tuesday, July 2

The Wyandotte Nation will be hosting its annual Independence Celebration on Tuesday, July 2, at the Wyandotte Nation Pow-Wow Grounds.

Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs and enjoy this free event that will feature music, food, fireworks and fun.

Gates open at 6 p.m. with live music starting around 7 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Organizers ask that personal fireworks be left at home. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol or firearms are permitted.

The Pow-Wow Grounds are located at 64700 East Highway 60, in Wyandotte.

Wednesday, July 3

Don’t miss the biggest and best City of Grove Annual July 3rd Celebration as Grove celebrates our nation’s Independence on Wednesday, July 3, at Wolf Creek Park.

Everyone is invited to come enjoy the celebration that will feature free entertainment, free watermelon and a free fireworks display. There will also be comedy, magic, music and more on the big stage at Wolf Creek Park, as well as a variety of vendors and scrumptious food.

Entertainment starts at 6 p.m. and the fireworks start at dark.

Headlining the July 3rd Celebration will be country show band, Stone Country. Comedienne, humorist, preacher and farmer’s daughter, Willamae, will bring her down-home country comedy to the stage as well. Nathan J. Roberts will entertain kids and adults alike with comedy and magic. Grove’s-own Ron Young will sing our nation’s national anthem as the celebration salutes our nation and our flag.

In addition to shooting the fireworks display, Grove firefighters will once again be serving free watermelon during the celebration.

Come by land, Grand or Pelivan. The public is invited to use the free Pelivan shuttles, which will pick up riders at the Grove Civic Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Three shuttles will run a continuous route to Wolf Creek and will return riders to the Civic Center after the fireworks show. The shuttles are ADA-accessible and air conditioned.

Wolf Creek Park is located at 963 North 16th St., on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Grove.

Celebrate America’s Independence with your family and friends at the 7th annual Bob McSpadden Memorial Fireworks Show Wednesday, July 3, as a myriad of colorful fireworks are launched into the sky. The show will be a carefully orchestrated display of light and sound.

Everyone is invited to Vinita Hornets Memorial Stadium for this free show. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the fireworks start at dusk.

The Independence Day celebration will also include food trucks, music and activities for the kids.

The Vinita Hornets Memorial Stadium is located off Hope Road and Ashland Street, in Vinita.

The City of Skiatook and The Exchange Bank will be presenting the 2019 Skiatook “Fantasy in the Sky” Independence Day Celebration on Wednesday, July 3, at the Skiatook Municipal Airport.

Live music provided by the band, Infinity, starts at 7 p.m., followed by a spectacular fireworks display just after dark. Food vendors will be available onsite.

Parking and admission are free. Bring your family, lawn chairs and blankets and help Skiatook celebrate Independence Day.

The Skiatook Municipal Airport is located at 1501 S. Lombard Lane, in Skiatook.

MidAmerica Outdoors is hosting a five-day Fourth of July event, Wednesday, July 3 through Sunday, July 7. The action-packed schedule includes a carnival, fireworks, live music, a parade ride and ATV/UTV racing, rodeo and trail riding events.

The fun kicks off Wednesday with the opening of the carnival. On Thursday, July 4, the event will feature live music, more carnival fun and fireworks, as well as something special for those in attendance. The carnival will be open through Saturday.

Racing gets underway at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday for the MidAmerica Firecracker Blowout UTV Race and Bounty Hill. For more information on the races, visit www.offroadracingevents.com.

Thursday, July 4

Duck Creek Fireworks, one of the Grand Lake’s most extravagant fireworks displays takes place from 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 4. The fireworks show will celebrate the 243rd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the 79th anniversary of the Duck Creek Fireworks and Grand Lake.

“The fireworks show this year will be remarkably different and more impressive than ever,” event organizers say. “We are spreading the show out over three pods 200 feet apart. This will allow for more shells and a more panoramic full-sky effect.”

According to event organizers, an enhanced music score with more shells will also make a dynamic difference.

This year’s festivities will kick off at 4 p.m., when the War Birds arrive at the South Grand Lake Airport, in Ketchum, where they will be open to the public for viewing and touching.

The Grand Entry Show will conducted by the War Birds at 7 p.m., followed by an F-16 flyover by the United States Air Force.

At 9:30 p.m., the anticipated fireworks show begins.

The grand fireworks show is presented by Cherokee Yacht Club and Marina, Arrowhead Yacht Club and Duck Creek Fireworks. It will take place on Duck Creek between the two yacht clubs.

The City of Jay Fireworks display will be at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4. Held at the RFC Outdoor Stage, the fireworks display will be part of the city’s 52nd annual Huckleberry Festival.

The old-fashioned festival celebrates the wild huckleberries that thrive in the area and includes a carnival, car show, horseshoe pitching, a turtle derby, tricycle race, water balloon relay race and a root beer chug-a-lug contest. There will also be a huckleberry pie contest and the always popular pie auction.

The Huckleberry Festival kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, with Screen on the Green, a showing of the movie, “E.T.”,  on the courthouse lawn.

Other events over the course of the festival that concludes on Saturday, July 7, include the Huckleberry Pageant, musical performances, arts and crafts, food vendors, a pancake breakfast, Huckleberry Fun Run and 5K Run, hog fry and much, much more.

The annual Huckleberry parade will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Miami’s 4th of July Extravaganza will be held Thursday, July 4, at the Buffalo Run Casino Outdoor Amphitheater.

Presented by the Miami Regional Chamber of Commerce, Buffalo Run Casino & Resort, the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma and the City of Miami, the 4th of July Extravaganza events and activities kick off at 5 p.m.

Free hot dogs and water will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and continue while supplies last. There will also be concessions available from Jack’s Ice Cream, Maw & Paw Kettle, Frozen Elephant and Jumpin’ John’s Tacos.

Music will be provided by Scotty B. This year’s Extravaganza concludes at dark with fireworks presented by Scott Garber.

Buffalo Run Casino is located at 1000 Buffalo Run Blvd., in Miami.

There is no cost to attend the 4th of July Extravaganza.

Friday, July 5

The 10th Annual Cliff Elliott Memorial Fireworks Show will light up the skies over Disney on Friday, July 5.

Presented by Grand Lake Fireworks, Inc., the show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome and invited to attend this annual spectacular fireworks show that is Grand Lake’s most easily accessible, both by land and by Grand. Watching on the water of South Grand Lake provides wide-open viewing for miles. Or, bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an up-close view of the show on land from between the spillways just east of Disney.

The 2019 Pryor’s Horse Creek Fireworks extravaganza will be on Friday, July 5, at dark in Horse Creek on Grand Lake.

Live music will be provided by Josh Anderson.

Hosted by Pryor’s Horse Creek Resort, the annual fireworks show is a Horse Creek tradition. It is open to guests at the resort and the public by water. According to organizers, the fireworks are best viewed directly to the east of the iron unfinished bridge.

Horse Creek Resort is located at 54501 East 260 Road, near Bernice.

Saturday, July 6

The Spavinaw Independence Day Celebration is set for Saturday, July 6. Hosted by the Spavinaw Volunteer Fire Department and SVFD Ladies Auxiliary, the celebration will be filled with activities from 2 p.m. until dark, including a watermelon-seed spitting contest, pie auction and silent auction.

Games, a water slide and vendors will be available from 2 p.m. to dark. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., there will be face painting and Art in the Park. A silent auction will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with food available from 3 p.m. until it’s gone.

A water balloon war will take place at the park from 3 to 4 p.m. followed by a parade on Main Street at 5 p.m. The watermelon-seed spitting contest begins at 6 p.m. Participants need to sign up for age groups by 5 p.m.

Pig and duck races will be held at the park from 7 to 8 p.m. Silent auction winners will be announced from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the fire department. The pie auction will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Fireworks start at dark.

The Spavinaw Volunteer Fire Department is located at 113 West Lake Ave., Spavinaw.

The 2019 Monkey Island Fireworks display will be held Saturday, July 6, at Shangri-La Resort Hotel. Organizers are expecting this year’s event to be “the island’s biggest Independence Day fireworks celebration yet.”

The fireworks will be visible from both land and water. They will be shot from a staging area in the parking lot of the public boat ramp between Shangri-La Chateaus and Shangri-La’s Champions 2 and 3 golf holes.

In addition to the fireworks display, there will be music, a vintage aircraft air show and lots of fun activities for kids. There is no charge to attend the event, but contributions are accepted.

If you’re not watching by boat, the “Grand Lawn” in front of Shangri-La Hotel should be a great spot to watch the fireworks. Bring a lawn chair and join the fun.

Automobile parking will be at Shangri-La Hotel, Eddy’s Lakeside Bar and Shangri-La Marina. To make travel and parking much easier, organizers suggest bringing a golf cart instead of a car.

The only thing better than watching fireworks over Grand Lake is watching them on Grand Lake. Sail Grand is offering a Monkey Island Fireworks Yacht Charter to watch the fireworks on Saturday. July 6.

Celebrate the Fourth of July holiday on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees with a special fireworks cruise on the Grand Lake Queen. The iconic paddlewheel riverboat that has sailed on Grand Lake for decades has recently returned to the water and will be hosting a Monkey Island Fireworks Cruise on Saturday, July 6.

The Grand Lake Queen will depart Royal Bay Marina at 7 p.m. and travel to watch the beautiful fireworks display at the Shangri-La Resort Hotel.

Tickets are $49.95 for adult and $24.95 for children, plus applicable taxes and fees. One free beer or soft drink is available with each ticket purchased. Space is limited. Tickets are available online at www.grandlakequeen.com.

The Royal Bay Marina is located at the base of Sailboat Bridge, 12500 Highway 59, in Grove.

The Salina Area Chamber of Commerce and the Cleo Farr American Legion Post will host the annual Salina Independence Day Carnival and Fireworks display Wednesday, July 3 through Saturday, July 6.

The family fun begins Wednesday, July 3, with Salina’s annual carnival that will run through Saturday, July 6. The fun concludes with a bang with the 2019 Annual Fireworks Over Lake Hudson show, which will be begin at dark (around 10 p.m.) on Saturday, July 6.

Due to current water levels, the fireworks will be launched from the ramp at Spring Cove. If the ramp is still flooded, an alternate location will be found. Because of this necessary change, organizers want everyone to be aware that this year’s fireworks show may not be visible from the carnival as it has been in the past.
