Coleman Ushers In Spring With Special Events March 3-5
There is no better place to celebrate the arrival of Spring than the Coleman Theatre Beautiful.
True, Spring doesn’t officially arrive until March 20, but that’s not going to stop the Coleman from ushering in the season with a weekend full of entertainment March 3-5.
It all starts with a special concert Friday, March 3, featuring former Miamian Jacque Garoutte and his band LEVEE TOWN. The band will be bringing along a few extra friends to join them on the Coleman stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
According to Amanda Davis, director of tourism for the City of Miami, the concert kicks off the Miami Reunion Weekend, which features a Miami All-School Reunion and B.F. Goodrich Reunion.
“We had such a great response to the All-School Reunion during last year’s Miami 125 Anniversary Celebration, along with a great turnout for the B.F. Goodrich Reunion, that we are combining them for one giant reunion celebration,” Davis said. “With the LEVEE TOWN concert Friday, the reunions and great silent movies at the Coleman, it promises to be an awesome family friendly weekend!”
Dennis James, the master of “The Mighty Wurlitzer” pipe organ, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 5, as he brings two classic comedy silent films to the Coleman starring the great Harold Lloyd.
Lloyd ranks alongside Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton as one of the most popular and influential film comedians of the silent film era. He made nearly 200 comedy films, both silent and “talkies,” between 1914 and 1947. He is best known for his bespectacled “Glasses” character.
Two of Lloyd’s most popular comedy feature films, “Dr. Jack” and “For Heaven’s Sake,” will be shown and synchronized with musical scorings by James, the official house organist of the Coleman Theatre. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for students and children.
