Grand Lake Celebrates Halloween With Spooktacular Family-Friendly Events

Whether you’re looking for spooky thrills and chills, family-friendly fun or just want to know where you can get your hands on lots of candy, the Grand Lake area has plenty of festivals, celebrations and events to ensure the whole family has a spooktacularly good Halloween.

Below is a comprehensive list of the kid and family-friendly activities taking place now through Halloween.

 

Fall Festivals

Ease into the Halloween-themed fun this year by taking in one or more of these fun fall festivals:

Har-Ber Village Museum will host its fourth annual Old-Fashioned Fall Festival from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. The pioneer-era village and history museum’s festival offers visitors the chance to experience the old-fashioned carnival fun of yesteryear.

The festival is geared for children ages 8 and under, but there will be fun for adults as well. Activities will include bean-bag toss, clothespin drop, ring toss, pumpkin chunkin, face painting, fishing booth and cupcake walk. Children are invited to come in costume to be a part of the fun.

Arvest Bank will provide free hot dogs for everyone attending. There will also be apple cider available.

All activities are free with regular admission to the Village. If you are coming just for the festival, the admission fee is reduced to $5 per person, $4 for Har-Ber Village Museum members.

Admission to Har-Ber Village Museum is $10 for adults, $7.50 for seniors 63+ and $5 for children ages 6-13. Children under 6 and members are free.

The city of Jay is celebrating autumn’s arrival with a Fall Fest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Saturday, Oct. 21, on the Delaware County Courthouse Square. The day’s lineup of fun includes a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, farmers’ market, bounce houses, lawn games, pony and camel rides and face painting.

More than 40 vendors will be offering a wide array of items, including arts and crafts, home goods, bath and body products, honey, Lipsense, Tupperware, essential oils, adult and children’s clothing, jewelry, therapy slime and much more. There will also be a painting class.

There will also be lots of delicious food, including Sugar Jim’s Chuck Wagon, all kinds of baked goods, the Arctic Fox food truck, a breakfast and gourmet coffee truck, as well as walking tacos, cupcakes and a caramel apple stand.

The Grand Meridian RV Resort Fall Festival is Saturday, Oct. 28 from 4 to 10 p.m. The fall festival with a hint of Halloween is being held to celebrate Grand Meridian’s first year at the new RV resort. Everyone is invited to come as they are or in the best Halloween costume. Prizes will be awarded for best boys’ and girls’ costumes and for the best adult costume.

The Fall Festival will include hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill and nonalcoholic drinks. The resort asks that attendees bring a side dish to share, your adult beverages and lawn chairs. The horseshoe pits and volleyball nets will be ready for action. The fire pit will be lit. And, there will be horse-drawn wagon hay rides.

The Big Cabin Fire Department is hosting a Fall Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. It will be held on Main Street between Railroad and Oak streets. There will be free food and games for everyone. Police cars and firetrucks will be on display during the kid-friendly festival.

Kid and Family-Friendly Fun

Shangri-La Resort is hosting a night of Family Halloween Fun for kids of all ages on Friday, Oct. 27. The public is invited to come enjoy this free outdoor event that will take place across the street from the Monkey Island Fire Department.

From 6 to 9 p.m., the whole family can enjoy a great evening that includes hay rides ($5 for adults and $3 for kids under 10), bounce house fun, a bonfire and live music by No Apparent Reason.

There will also be plenty of delicious food concessions, including hot dogs and chili dogs ($2, $3), Frito chili pies ($3), candy apples ($2), s’mores kits ($3), candy bars ($1), soda and bottled water ($2), hot chocolate and hot apple cider ($1), wine ($5) and beer ($3).

All concessions at the event are cash or member charge only. No credit or debit cards.

The First Baptist Church of Vinita is hosting its 7th annual Treat in the Street from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, on South Smith Street between Canadian and Illinois avenues in Vinita.

There will be hot dogs, popcorn, games and, of course, candy. In addition to receiving treat bags full of goodies, attendees can sign up for a drawing for a couple of great prizes.

Community children are invited to attend the 28th annual Hallelujah Party Tuesday, Oct. 31. The party offers a safe, fun and free alternative to trick or treating. Cornerstone Church of Grove has been joined by Newsong and Foundation Free Will Baptist Church in hosting this Biblically based party for children ages 3 to 12. (Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.)

Held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grove Civic Center, 1720 South Main St., in Grove, the Hallelujah Party will have entertainment, skits, more than 50 game booths, great prizes and candy, candy and even more candy. There will also be a food court where concessions can be purchased. The only thing this free kid-friendly party won’t have is anything scary.

Miami’s annual Sweet Street — Boo Ha Ha event is Tuesday, Oct. 31. Held on Main Street in Miami from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the event provides a fun, safe environment for the whole family. There will be lots of candy, games, activities and more.

Isaiah 58 Ministries in Vinita is holding a Hallelujah Carnival from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. The carnival will include more than 20 game booths, prizes and candy. A highlight of the event is “The Jonah Adventure,” a blacklight walk-through experience for the whole family.

The Hallelujah Carnival is free for all ages. Everyone is invited to this fun event.

Thulin Automotive in Miami will be hosting a 2017 Halloween Hot Rod Festival from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The festival will include a car show, race cars, bounce house and costume contest. Prizes will be awarded in the costume contest in two age groups, 6 and under and 7 and older. Trophies and medals will be given to the top 5.

The car show will have five classes:  2000-present, 1999-1980, 1979-1960, 1959 and older and four-wheel drive.  The entry fee is candy to pass out to kids.

Registration for the car show is at noon and awards will be presented at 5 p.m. Dash plaques will be presented to the first 50 entries. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 for Best of Show, People’s Choice (most decorated for Halloween) and Kids’ Choice.

Located at 124 East Steve Owens Blvd. in Miami, Thulin Automotive invites everyone to come out, see the new shop and have some fun trick or treating while looking at beautiful cars.

Fairland will host a Community Harvest Celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Everyone is invited to come and join Fairland’s churches, businesses, fire and police departments and other organizations for a safe and free fun-filled evening at the Fairland park.

Fun for the whole family, the Community Harvest Celebration will include free hot dogs, Kool-Aid, popcorn and plenty of candy for the kids. There will also be lots of activities for kids to enjoy, including bounce houses, football toss, hay rides, a photo booth, cake walk and much more.

From 5:30 to 7 p.m., kids up to 12 years old can register for several giveaways at the fire department’s table. The giveaways include a Kindle Fire, bikes and scooter. There will also be small prize giveaways throughout the evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Register for these prizes at the table beside the pavilion.

 

Trick or Treat

Children will be out trick or treating in Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The city of Grove has posted a Halloween safety checklist with rules to keep ghouls and boys safe this Halloween on its website.

Everyone is invited to come and join in the fun of Halloween in Pryor. Businesses in downtown Pryor will be passing out candy from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. For more information, contact the Pryor Area Chamber of Commerce at (918) 825-0157.

Little monsters are invited to come Trick-or-Treat in Downtown Grove Saturday, Oct. 28, Several participating merchants, including1909, Goodfella’s Pizzeria, The Grove Sun, La Casita de Martin Cuisine & Cantina, Weathered Charm, Sugar’d Spoon Bakery, Rusty Willow and L. Reneau Salon and Spa, will be giving out treats to all the little ghouls and boys who stop by from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Trunk-or-Treat Events

Trunk-or-Treat events bring Halloween to parking lots where costumed kids go from decorated car to decorated car and get candy. Several Grand Lake area communities and organizations will be hosting trunk or treat events this Halloween.

A Community Trunk or Treat will be held at Whitaker Park in Pryor from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Make plans to attend this family-fun event that will include inflatables, candy, cookies and hot chocolate.

The city of Jay’s Trunk or Treat will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Delaware County Courthouse Square. Free to the public, the event will include candy, games, bounce houses and lots of fun. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. If you arrive early, you will need to wait to enter by the Delaware County Museum. Once the trunk or treat event opens, everyone will be able to come and go as they please.

A costume contest begins at 6 p.m. at the gazebo. Stacy Gough with Phorever Studios will have a photo booth to capture pictures of the little trunk or treaters free of charge.

The Bluejacket Trunk or Treat is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. It will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bluejacket at 408 Harris St. The event is hosted by the First Baptist Church of Bluejacket, 180 Youth and the Bluejacket Volunteer Fire Department. The Bluejacket Fire Department will be bringing a fire truck to add to the fun.

Bring your ghouls, witches and monsters to the Chelsea Main Street Trunk or Treat Tuesday, Oct. 31. Starting at 6 p.m., the evening will be filled with spooky fun and plenty of treats. Hosted by Project Chelsea, Chelsea Main Street Trunk or Treat will have games, food vendors and several contests, including pumpkin, trunk and costume.

Pumpkins for the pumpkin contest need to be dropped off by 6 p.m. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m. First, second and third place awards will be presented to winners of the trunk contest. Businesses, groups and individuals are invited to decorate their trunk and hand-out candy. Vehicles must be parked in downtown by 5:30 p.m.

The costume contest begins at 7 p.m. Participants in the costume contest must be at Sixth and Pine by 6:45 p.m.

The second annual Morgan’s Collision Services Trunk or Treat starts at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. All ages are welcome to come enjoy candy, hot dogs, classic cars, costumes and lots of fun. Morgan’s Collision Services is located at 4415 South Mill, in Pryor.

Take your kids trick or treating in Disney this Halloween. Local business owners and the community of Disney are hosting a Trunk or Treat Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone participating in the event will be set up along Main Street from Chezzie’s to the Copperwood Lodge. The Disney Trunk or Treat will be a safe, fun environment for kids to collect candy. Everyone is invited to wear their best costume and come have fun. Anyone who wants to set up and give out candy is welcome as well.

 

Spooky Stuff

Looking for chills and thrills? Want to be deeply disturbed? The VRXP.Rocks, the Virtual Realty Experience, invites you to come be spooked in virtual reality.

From Friday, Oct. 13, through Halloween, the virtual realty family entertainment center in Vinita is presenting Affected The Manor, a 20 to 30-minute haunted house tour. Will you be able to face the horror?

Tickets are $10 each. Bring a friend and pay $7 each for two or $5 each for four or more tickets.

Take a walk on the wild side at the Spook Trail in Jay on Saturday, Oct. 21 and 28. From 7 to 11 p.m. each Saturday, the Jay High School baseball field will be transformed into a Spook Trail where all sorts of ghosts, goblins and other scary monsters will be waiting to frighten you.

The cost is $5 and all proceeds benefit the Jay baseball program. Food concessions will also be available with a price range of $1 to $3.

If you prefer your Halloween frights to just scare you silly, the Peacock Fun/Spook Zone is the haunted house for you. From Friday, Oct. 27 through Tuesday, Oct. 31, the Old Courtyard Printing building will become a fun, but not super scary haunted house. According to organizers, the walk-through fun/spook zone experience will be appropriate for ages middle school and up,.

Presented by the Fighting Peacocks Special Olympics softball team in conjunction with Delaware County Friendship Homes, the Peacock Fun/Spook Zone opens at dark and closes at midnight Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. It is open from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The price is $5 per person and no refunds will be given.
