Labor Day Celebration and Fireworks Show Sunday, Sept. 3 at The Landings Marina

The Landings Marina Labor Day Celebration
The George Brothers, a three-piece country/Southern rock/red dirt band out of northwest Arkansas, will perform at The Landings Marina Labor Day celebration and fireworks show until the fireworks show begins around 8:30 p.m.

Labor Day signals the end of the summer season here on Grand Lake, but there’s no reason it should go out with a whimper.

The Landings Marina Labor Day celebration and fireworks show on Sunday, Sept. 3, will literally close out summer on Grand Lake with a bang.

Bad weather around the first of July forced The Landings Marina to postpone its Independence Day celebration and fireworks show. But the Fourth of July’s loss is Labor Day weekend’s gain.

Rather than cancel his annual event, Paul Staten, owner of The Landings Marina, chose to reschedule to Labor Day weekend, giving Grand Lakers another chance to see fireworks in the sky before the summer season ends.

The Landings Marina on Monkey Island will host its Labor Day celebration and fireworks show Sunday, Sept. 3, on the marina dock and in the parking lot. The marina location allows for better access to the celebration from Grand Lake.

The fun starts at 1 p.m. Activities include inflatable jump stations for the kids and a car show.

Staten invites car owners to bring out their antique cars, classics, hot rods and more and “show ’em off”.

“We’re never sure how many there will be until they get here,” Staten said.

The musical entertainment begins at 3 p.m. The George Brothers, a three-piece country/Southern rock/red dirt band out of northwest Arkansas, will perform on the marina’s dock until 8 p.m.

Randall George, Dawayne George and Leslie Wright are the band members who make up the George Brothers.

While the band avoids being labeled into a particular genre, the George Brothers cite Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash as their early musical influences. From there, they became hooked on the Southern rock and country music being played by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jerry Reed and The Allman Brothers Band.

The George Brothers tour all across the United States, performing in casinos, nightclubs and at festivals and fundraiser events. Playing good music is the band’s focus. They bring high-energy guitar riffs with outlaw attitude to each performance. The band’s sound is described as “classic country meets Southern rock with a little blues on top.”

The fireworks show will begin around 8:30 p.m., Staten said, when it is dark enough to really enjoy the spectacular display. The fireworks will be shot off from the airstrip of the Grand Lake Regional Airport, guaranteeing a great view for everyone.

To extend the fun, the Landings Marina will also be hosting hot dog days at the marina on Saturday and Sunday. This holiday hot dog weekend will include a free self-service hot dog buffet from noon until 6 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until 8 p.m. Sunday.

The Landings Marina is located on Monkey Island at 56551 E. Highway 125.
