Punkin Chunkin Includes Dutch Oven Competition

The Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that the 4^th annual Route 66 Punkin Chunkin Festival will include a Dutch oven competition. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 27, at John’s Tractor Works, 444934 US Hwy 60/66 in Vinita. The challenge is simple: who can cook pumpkin the best.

The cost to compete is $25.00 per team. The fee includes festival wristbands for each team member. Teams can register online atwww.vinita.com/events or call the VACC office at (918) 256-7133.

Air cannons, catapults, and trebuchets (among other machines) will all be found on the firing line at this year’s festival. Categories will include youth, amateur, professional, and air cannon, meaning multiple teams will proudly get to call themselves chunker champions. The event is a great opportunity for kids of all ages to build something with their hands and engage in some friendly competition.

The Punkin Chunkin Festival is more than a high-flying competition. It’s a fun-filled festival including food trucks, arts and crafts, and live music. Free activities for the kids include pumpkin bowling, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and more. Gates will be open from 11:00am to 3:00pm. General admission is $5.00. Children four and under are free. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
