Located less than two miles north of Langley on the grounds of Lazy R RV Park, The Checkered Past is a little shop run by two very nice, you could even say, sweet ladies and the shop’s ever-changing selection of items is carefully selected and very well priced.
Opened in the spring of 2018, The Checkered Past offers an eclectic selection of vintage home decor, antiques, furniture from all eras, Southern decor, crockery, baskets, unique pieces that your grandma had and much, much more. The store also has a niche for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis-style clothes, as well as bags and purses.
Inventory is constantly being added, so you’ll want to stop by and see the “new” goods every time the shop is open because you never know what you’re going to find. The only thing that remains the same at The Checkered Past is the quality of the carefully selected items and the friendly, helpfulness of the mother and daughter team, who are happy to assist you in finding the right item at the right price.
The Checkered Past is a family-owned and operated boutique of a resale shop located near Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Mother and daughter Diane Trammell and Kimberly Trammell-Snodgrass share a love for going to garage sales and junkin’. The resale shop gives them an excuse to shop with their customers reaping the rewards of their efforts.
Retired after working as a surgery nurse at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa for 33 years, Diane oversees the store, while Kimberly, a child welfare specialist who lives in Jenks, does most of the junkin’ and searching for items.
“We are very family oriented and support each other,” Diane said. “We’re building this [The Checkered Past Resale Shop] to be even closer.”
All of the unique treasures at The Checkered Past are very reasonably priced. “We have great prices,” Diane says. “Everybody brags about the prices.”
As for why they named their resale shop The Checkered Past, Diane Trammell says the name came about “because everybody has a checkered past and we like digging through it.”
The Checkered Past is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Saturday of the first and third weekends of the month. The resale shop will also open any time to accommodate its customers. Call (918) 261-5916 to make an appointment.
For those who can’t wait to see what “new” selections have arrived, The Checkered Past Resale Shop also has a booth at Southern Darlin’s Boutique. The items available at the Langley boutique are representative of the diverse inventory available at the resale shop. Diane and Kimberly constantly add “new” pieces to the booth.
Southern Darlin’s Boutique is located at 1666 North 3rd St., Suite 2, in Langley. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday with extended hours until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
