22 Year Old Vinita Resident Publishes Her 1st Book
CJ McKay was born in Wichita, KS., and moved to Vinita with her mom at the age of 4 in 2005. Her love for reading and writing started developing while she attended Cowboy Junction Christian School where she won Best Overall with her essay, “What I’m Thankful For.” She grew up being told by some in her life that she can’t do anything right, but she fought against those words and started writing her 1st book during her junior year of high school. Now, four years later, she’s a published author and working on several other books.
Nine year olds and up to the “young at heart” generations are loving her book, The Elementalists: The Boy In The Mirror. It’s a journey about a 13-year-old girl who after being accepted into Ecclesia: Academy of Magic, was attacked by a dark force. This event starts her journey of uncovering secrets - a huge one being revealed after seeing a boy in her mirror at school. She forms a group of friends who are each born with one of the 7 different elemental magic. They help her to seek out the truth but is their magic enough to save this boy, and fight against an evil force who comes against them? There are no adult situations or swearing, so parents have enjoyed getting this young adult fantasy book for their children.
