GRDA’s 2019 in review: Part 4

This week, we close out our look-back on GRDA’s 2019 with some of the highlights from the final quarter of the year. Here are a few of the happenings around the Authority in October, November and December…

In October, GRDA’s efforts to support workforce development and educational opportunities for tomorrow’s Team GRDA were recognized by the MidAmerica Industrial Park (MAIP) during the 6th Annual Manufacturing Day event held at the Rogers State University campus in Pryor. For the second time in three years MAIP awarded GRDA  with its “Champion in Workforce Development” award. “GRDA has made significant strides and investments in developing their workforce to ensure that they have the skills needed to be successful,” said Scott Fry, MidAmerica Director of Workforce Development in October. “This is the type of work that MidAmerica looks for when selecting the Champion in Workforce Development recipient.”

Also in October, GRDA received good news from the financial community when it learned that Fitch Ratings had affirmed its A+, stable credit. Fitch based its decision in part on GRDA’s “continued strong financial performance and very low operating costs. A few weeks later, in November, Moody’s Investor Service announced that it was also affirming the A1 rating, with stable outlook, that it had previously given GRDA. In explaining its decision, Moody’s also noted GRDA’s “diverse and competitively-priced resource mix” as a key reason for its rating.

In December, at its monthly meeting, the GRDA Board of Directors authorized the sale of GRDA’s administrative headquarters property in Vinita to Home of Hope, Inc. While more news on that transition will be shared in the coming weeks, the decision represented another step in GRDA’s ongoing efforts to seek out new efficiencies.

Finally, as the holiday season geared up, GRDA joined the festivities by once again participating in area Christmas parades. The GRDA Police Department led that effort and made sure the GRDA “boat float” made an appearance in as many as 24 area parades.

It was a great way to celebrate the season and close out 2019. Now, we look forward to all the opportunities that await in 2020. From your friends at GRDA, happy New Year!

GRDA is Oklahoma’s state-owned electric utility; fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes. Each day, GRDA strives to be an “Oklahoma agency of excellence” by focusing on the 5 E’s: electricity, economic development, environmental stewardship, employees and efficiency.
