March 21st Fishing Report by Lance Guide Service
White Bass-Fish are stretched out from the main lake all the way up our rivers right now in preparation to spawn. Water temps are up into the 60's even with that cold front we had last week. We use a jig head and GoGo Minnows or Crappie Kickers from FLE FLY Fishing Tackle when targeting white bass during the spawn. You'll need to have a mixture of colors and sizes to figure out what they are wanting. Some days they'll be on the creek and river banks, other days they'll be roaming in the middle. This past weekend the fish were really keying on the 3" Electric Blue Crappie Kicker. We had them rigged on a 1/4" ounce jig head slowly reeling it on the bottom.
BLUE CATFISH- The fish during the cold front had pushed out into the deeper water with the bait, however with the warm weather we are having they've moved up shallow to feed. Windy days are best if you can handle it. Fresh shad is best for bait this time of year for blue catfish. If targeting channel catfish, pick up a tub of Sudden Impact and use a treble hook.
CRAPPIE - The crappie shut their mouths and were finicky during the cold front, but are now back to feeding around the shad in coves and up the rivers. We are throwing Crappie Kickers and GoGo Minnows on schools and letting it pendulum back or slowly reeling. Be sure to use high-vis line and look for the line to jump indicating a strike.
SPOONBILL / PADDLEFISH - We caught fish from Sailboat to past Twin Bridges this week. The fish are still spread out without our flow and making a small migration each day up the lake.
