Too Much Water ---------------------- Too Many Mouths
Unless you live under a rock, have no friend/relatives nor electricity - - you know Oklahoma is flooded - - - - with water. Sadly, we’re also flooded with homeless dogs and cats.
It is easy to feel overwhelmed and wonder if there’s really an end in sight – especially as you scroll through posts from people you know/trust in rescue. It happened to me – today. I had to walk away and think it through before I put anything down in writing.
Dear Lord, we know it will be months before some people find a new place to live, find a job, start to rebuild their lives - - then try to find their pets. In a perfect world, there would be this huge facility with unlimited funding, volunteers and staff that would provide basic care, enrichment, love and devotion for as long as it would take to find the owners of those dogs still in the emergency shelter. Well, it isn’t a perfect world in Oklahoma.
Yes, we’re Oklahoma strong. Then I get a “HELP” message from someone who works tirelessly for the abandoned/homeless/owner surrender animals in her area with adorable pictures of 22 puppies and their Momma. If you do basic math – 22 x 5 = 110. The second year – 550. Add to that the flooded waters, current state of emergency for humans as well as pets, livestock, wild life and people.
Oklahomans are Oklahoma strong – but good grief!!!!
Please support and volunteer - - it is every hands on deck for the foreseeable future.
