"Wish List" Donations for Second Chance Pet Rescue
Grandparents love to have their family visit and do very special things together to make their visit enjoyable and memorable. Ella Faries is the 10-year old granddaughter of Carol and Tom Rice of Grove, OK. She lives in Parker, Colorado, and during her recent visit to Grand Lake, she and the entire family enjoyed all of the fun that living on Grand Lake offers. But most of all, Ella also wanted to help out the local animal shelter while she visited. Ella is an animal lover and, even at her young age. is involved with a dog rescue organization in the Denver area. We found out that Second Chance Pet Rescue was in desperate need of kitty litter. So she purchased 100 pounds of kitty litter and dog and cat treats to deliver to the shelter.
While visiting the shelter with her donation, Ella and Nana Rice did a few simple chores to help out the staff. Clean towels and blankets from the dryer were folded and put away, newspapers were torn into strips for puppy kennel bedding, the dogs Chuck and Lilly were taken out to the play yard for exercise, and of course, every dog was given a dog treat for that extra special attention they all craved. Ella is pictured with her donations and with Chuck in the play yard. Chuck is a very special senior dog that has a sweet disposition and needs a family that will care for him. Chuck's adoption fee would be waived if you are a senior of 62 years or older and would be interested in adopting Chuck.
If you love animals and want to help out Second Chance Pet Rescue but you can't adopt a pet, volunteer, or donate money, there are always item donations. Item donations make a huge difference in animal rescue. Second Chance Pet Rescue are always in need of these "Wish List" Donations. Call the shelter at 918-786-7630 and ask what item donations are needed most.
1. Pet food and treats. A lot of the shelter's money goes towards buying food. Think about how many animals there are to feed and it really helps them by bringing in a few cans or bags of food.
2. Kitty litter. Cats go to the bathroom - a lot. Non-clumping kitty litter is a constant need and their supply runs out fast.
3. Towels and blankets. Our residents like to have a blanket to curl up on. Towels are a big help to dry animals off after being bathed or if they come in wet from playing outside. Towels and blankets do not have to be new or in perfect condition. The animals won't mind as long as they are usable.
4. Old newspaper. When you are done with your newspapers, don't think about throwing them away. You could help the animals at no cost to you if you deliver your old newspapers either to the shelter or to Second Chance Thrift Shop. Newspapers are used in the bottoms of cages or torn into strips for puppy kennels. They get soiled quickly, so newspapers are always in constant demand.
5. Puppy food (canned or dry), kitten formula and nursing bottles. Sometimes there are situations where a young puppy or kitten who is not weaned gets abandoned and delivered to our shelter. Puppy canned food or kitty formula are needed for them to survive.
6. Paper towels and cleaning supplies. There are a lot of situations that get messy, so paper towels and cleaning supplies are always a big help.
7. HE Laundry detergent and bleach. Towels and blankets get soiled often so the washing machines are used a lot.
8. Hand wash and hand sanitizer. Shelter workers must keep their hands clean at all times for their and the animals' health.
9. Garbage bags, mops, brooms, and sponges. The shelter uses these every day and clean up supplies can get expensive.
