Woods VS Woods

Why aren't woods made of wood? They used to be, but since the 1980's woods have been made of metal. Metal has many advantages over wood. For the beginning golfer, the most important features are perimeter weighting and low center of gravity (LCG) which can only be achieved through precisely molded metal. Both of these design technologies result in golf clubs that are much more forgiving than wooden woods. Perimeter weighting helps create a larger sweet spot — a larger area on the face of the club that will result in a good hit. Low center of gravity creates mass at the right place — increasing the height that the ball will launch off the club and reducing the likelihood of miss-hits into the ground.

Golf Joke of the Week

The lady golfer was a determined, if not very proficient player. At each swipe she made at the ball earth flew in all directions.

"Gracious me," she exclaimed red-faced to her caddie, "the worms will think there's an earthquake."

"I don't know," replied the caddie, "the worms round here are very clever. I'll bet most of them are hiding underneath the ball for safety."

Playing golf in the Rain

The golf course will play longer because it’s so soft. The good news is that the fairways and greens get softer and more receptive. The fairways and greens become, in effect, wider and bigger, respectively, because your shots don’t bounce into trouble as much.

Try not to let the conditions affect your normal routines. The best rain players always take their time and stay patient.

Playing in the rain is one thing — playing in lightning is another thing all together. When lightning strikes, (you tend to be the highest point on the golf course, unless there’s a tree around) can make you a target. Don’t take chances. Drop your club and take cover.
