REVIEW THE RULES

Avoid playing the wrong ball
Sounds blindingly obvious but unless you mark your ball before you start, there’s a danger - with so many golf balls similarly stamped - you may mistake yours for another player’s.
Playing the wrong ball in match play could mean loss of hole in singles and will be a two stroke penalty in stroke play. To avoid such a penalty, try marking your ball more clearly with distinctive personalized symbols.
But if you’re unsure the ball - in the rough, for example - is yours, notify your playing partners, mark it carefully with a tee, lift but do not clean it (only to identify it) and replace in the identical spot you’re within your rights Rule 15-1

GOLF HISTORY

The Early Years

It would appear that around 1353, golfers adopted the principle of allowing each team to hit a second uninterrupted shot. Previously, teams of players would alternate hitting a ball back and forth across the links in Fife.

The history of golf shows that golf also rapidly acquired such popularity, that it eclipsed the sport of archery. Archery was so vital to Scotland’s national defense, that the playing of golf in Scotland was made a criminal offense punishable by hanging.

The first year that signs of the "golf bug" appeared among the population in parts of Scotland was 1457. In Scottish golf history a game called "gouf", is referred to in Acts of Parliament under the Scottish King, James II. Around 1502, King James IV succumbs to temptation and purchases clubs and balls from a bow maker in Perth, Scotland. In 1504, the first record of a golf match was between James IV and the Earl of Bothwell.

GOLF ETIQUETTE
GOLF Etiquette is an integral part of the game, defining golf's core values. It
describes the manner in which the game of golf should be played to ensure all
players gain maximum enjoyment.
In short, it’s about “respect”:
 Respect for the course – leave the course as you would like to find it by repairing
pitch-marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers
 Respect for your fellow players – be sportsmanlike and polite, stay by the green
to watch them hole out, and avoid distracting them
 Respect for the game – by knowing the Rules and etiquette of golf
