April 18 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum
I hope you had a great Easter – and I hope you found all your eggs. There’s nothing worse than finding them while wearing flip-flops a month later after they’ve had a chance to rot for a while.

I found a way to make a little money! All I have to do is ask my employer not to throw me a birthday party, then find a way to get it to happen, anyway. It happened in Kentucky. An employee of Gravity Diagnostics asked the company bosses not to throw him a birthday party because he said it would give him an anxiety attack. They did it anyway – and he had an anxiety attack. In a meeting about it the next day, he had another anxiety attack and was given two days off. That weekend he was notified that he was fired because of “the events of the past few days.” The jury awarded him $450,000. Nice birthday present, after all!

I discovered some other good news this week. I may be one of the best friends you’ll ever have. Smartest, too. A new study indicates people who swear a lot may be more intelligent than average – and also turn out to be the best and most loyal friends. You’re welcome!

With all the news about Scottie Scheffler’s win, Tiger Woods miraculous reemergence, and the miracle chip-ins from Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa hole-out from the same bunker on 18, you may not be aware of who had the most fun at The Masters golf tournament. It’s been fifteen years since John Daly played in the tournament, but he always makes a big splash. This year was no different. As usual, he parked his RV at the Augusta Hooters, drank a bunch of beer, smoked a lot of cigarettes, hung out with the Hooter’s girls, and sold a bunch of merchandise. After The Masters, he headed to Myrtle Beach to celebrate in a jam session with Darius Rucker and the rest of the crew from Hootie and the Blowfish. So, who enjoyed the Masters more? You be the judge.

It’s officially political campaign season. Filing for public office ended in Oklahoma last Friday with 569 candidates filing for state and federal offices. In Grand Lake’s 2nd Congressional District, I hope there are enough voters left to elect one of the list of candidates. Sixteen people (14 Republicans, 1 Democrat, and 1 Independent filed for the office. That ought to be an interesting campaign. Nobody knows anything about any of them. Those federal slots must be good jobs. Another 16 candidates filed for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Jim Inhofe, and incumbent U.S. Senator James Lankford drew 10 opponents. We also have races in our area for State Representative, State Senate, Sheriff, and District Attorney. We should have a little easier time learning a little about those folks.

I found out this week that Oscar Award-winning actor Will Smith and I have something in common. Neither one of us is going to be allowed to attend the Academy Award Presentations for the next ten years.
