April 8 Random Observation of The Grand Lake Bum

It has been a big week for conspiracy theorists who tried to make people believe the solar eclipse was something other than the moon blocking our view of the sun for a few minutes. So…the world has not come to an end – and there was not a war of resistance in Travis County, Texas and McCurtain County, Oklahoma to attempt to block the establishment of a new world order by billionaires. Spotty cell service in the top viewing areas likely is more attributable to large numbers of users than a secret government plot to block communications while that new world order is established. Where in the world do these wackos come from? More importantly, should we be scared about the number of people who don’t think they are wackos? SMH!

In addition to being the gun capital of the world, Oklahoma may soon add axes and knives to our title. Following on the heels of last weekend’s Wanenmacher’s World’s Largest Gun Show in Tulsa, we got the word that later this month, Tulsa will also host the Axe and Knife Throwing World Championship. There may be more to that event than I realize since it is being held at the new WeStreet Ice Center. Oklahoma would be the right place to introduce a new sport – Axe and Knife Throwing On Ice with weapon tossers required to do so while ice skating. It could qualify as “Extreme Axe Throwing” (if you don’t think axe throwing is already extreme).  I have a team slogan: “Axe me about my ice skating skills.”

I overheard three kids talking. One said her parents told her they used to win concert tickets from a radio station using a rotary phone. One kid asked, “What’s a rotary phone?” The other asked, “What’s a radio station?”

I saw a social media post this week from someone apparently trying to book a hotel room at Shangri-La Resort. It said, “What am I missing at the lake? How can Shangri-La be sold out?” Let that be a lesson to you. There’s no such thing as “off-season” at Grand Lake!

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Pat Sheeler, Alex Frost, Bill Durrick, Megann Marcellino, Jerry Cookson, Bill Schenke, Peggy Howard-Burgess, Frank Love, Bill Dalton, Bobby Hendren, Sheri Price, Jack Moore, Tripp Markwell, Doug Frans, Ashley Davidson, Melanie Athey, T.J. We’ll have sunshine with a few clouds this weekend. We’ll have some breeze, but nothing outrageously high like last weekend. High temperatures will be pushing 80 degrees with lows around 60. It looks like a great weekend for a party – indoors or outdoors…or both! Remember, though, wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It might be me!
