August 6 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum
Another year is in the books for the Boats, Bikes, Bikinis & BBQ event at Arrowhead Yacht Club – and another great success. I started to say the guys at Arrowhead “pulled off another great event,” but using the words “pulled off” in conjunction with an event that involves a bikini contest just didn’t sound right. Congratulations to everyone involved. A lot of money was raised for great causes – South Grand Lakers Helping Children and the local BACA Chapter. Still raising money for great causes the Grand Lake way – by partying down!

Looks like we have gained a new Grand Laker. Country superstar Toby Keith spent the weekend meeting and greeting his new neighbors on Monkey Island – even did some karaoke at The Shebang Balcony Bar.

I can’t believe NFL Football season has already arrived (sort of – preseason) and this is the last weekend before most kids start school. Teachers report even earlier. It’s a sad week. It’s also a good time to remind the legislature of the good ol’ days – when school started AFTER Labor Day!

Zemarcuis Devon Scott, an 18-year-old from Texarkana, Arkansas missed the concert he wanted to see. For some reason, he thought it would be a good idea to jump and airport fence, dash aboard an American Eagle commuter jet, hop in the cockpit and try to fly himself to the concert. Fortunately, police caught him before he could figure out how to operate the jet. It wasn’t as easy as he thought. He told authorities he thought flying the plan would amount to little more than pushing buttons and pulling levers. Technically, the idiot is probably right. The big questions, though, are “Which buttons? Which levers? And when?” You can’t fix stupid.

I don’t know why Damian Simms was mad at 7-Eleven – but something made him walk into a store in St. Petersburg, Florida with a bucket of human feces and urine he had obtained from a porta-potty – and toss it all on the floor. The police reports noted “an indication of alcohol influence.” Ya’ THINK???

As lawmakers in Oklahoma struggle to finalize implementation of the medical marijuana law in our state, school just got a lot better in Illinois – at least if you’re the kid with the cool parents. Governor Bruce Rauner has signed a law requiring public schools to allow parents to administer medical marijuana at school to eligible children. It allows parents or guardians to administer a "cannabis-infused product" to a student on school property or a school bus.

If you’re collecting a list of excuses that don’t work when attempting to get out of a speeding ticket – authorities in Minnesota have released another one: “trying to get to Taco Bell before they close,” did not work for the driver clocked at 99 mph. That’s some bad munchies, right there.

There are a thousand ways to die…plus this one. In Moscow, Russia, a 60-year old man died after slipping on his bathroom floor and wedging a toilet brush in his skull through an eye socket. Just thought you might need to know. Bathroom hazards.

WORTH NOTING: When you start feeling down because you have made some bad decisions, think of Ronald Wayne. In 1976, he sold his 10% share of Apple Computers for $800. Today, that would be worth $95,000,000,000.00, making him one of the richest people on earth.

The weekend weather looks pretty good – not unbearably hot, anyway. We may have a scattered thunder-boomer here and there Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon late, but high temps will be in the upper 80s with lows in the mid-60s…and it’s August! Be safe, have fun, and stay hydrated. And, remember…wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
