December 9 Random Observations of The The Grand Lake Bum
If you haven’t already made plans to be at Grand Lake this weekend, you’d better change your plans. Apparently the date of Christmas Day has been changed to December 14 at Grand Lake. From the Pensacola Dam to Duck Creek, Monkey Island to Grove…all the major Christmas events of the season are Saturday!
*****
‘Tis the season, I guess. In Miami, Oklahoma, a thief braved what should have been an insurmountable challenge last week when he sneaked in and stole a decorated Christmas tree…from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office!! I’m not sure whether to congratulate the thief for his speed and daring deed…or ding him for not picking a little easier target. No matter, I guess. It worked.

From Miami, Oklahoma to Miami, Florida – where an artist taped a banana to the wall with duct tape in an art gallery, gave it a name – and sold it for $120,000. In case you were worried about what happens to the “art piece” the next day when the banana begins to rot, no problem. A guy calling himself a “performing artist” pulled the tape and the peel off the banana and ate it. I’m not sure who ended up with the $120K.

I’m sure you’ve heard the term “sh*t storm,” but the people in Butler County, Kansas thought they were sure enough in the middle of one last week. Crop dusting pilot Barry Wood made a wrong turn last week when on a mission to dump four tons of liquid manure fertilizer on area fields and dumped the load, instead, on the town of El Dorado. It was a smelly mess all over town – and the people participating in an outdoor wedding ceremony may never be the same. In case you were wondering if alcohol was involved, Barry’s blood alcohol content pegged the needle at .48 – six times the legal limit, and 12 times the limit for flying an airplane. He faces 269 different charges including aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and performing an aviation function while over the prescribed alcohol limit. He may have plenty of time to sober up, though. If found guilty on all charges, he faces a total of 1,235 years in prison and a fine of $2,335,500; and his pilot’s license could also be suspended. Now, that’s a REAL sh*t storm!

Weather for looks good this weekend for all the parades and holiday festivities around the lake. We’ll have partly cloudy skies with not much rain chance Thursday-Saturday with light winds and high temperatures in the mid-50s and lows in the mid-30s. Another cold front is predicted to sweep in Sunday with a temperature drop of about 10 degrees. It sounds like the perfect weekend to enjoy parades, parties, great food, and some holiday season time with friends & family. Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
