March 2 Random Observations Of The Grand Lake Bum
First off, don’t forget to vote Tuesday. March 3 is Super Tuesday with Presidential Primary voting in fourteen states and American Samoa. Oklahoma is one of those states!

Everybody got an early dose of Spring Fever over the past weekend – especially Saturday. Golf carts and boats seemed to suddenly be the favored modes of transportation. White-legged folks were sporting shorts on the golf courses and bot crews were pulling down enclosures and looking for suntan lotion. Maybe we should have a “leap day” every year instead of just every four.

The weekend ahead represents one of the great weekends of the entire year. It’s Welcome Back Weekend, Grand Lake Boat Show time – and the beginning of Daylight Saving Time. I can’t think of a better combination! The Grand Lake Boat Show is at the Grove Civic Center Thursday-Sunday. There are two days of “Welcome Back” festivities at Cherokee Yacht Club and Arrowhead Yacht Club; and both clubs are open to the public all weekend this week. Saturday is highlighted by the “Welcome Back Poker Run” on South Grand Lake. Run the route by boat or by car. Stops include Arrowhead, Cherokee, Cedar Port, Mooney’s Sunset Bar & Grill and VIP Pizza at Hammerhead Marina. Get a chip from each location between 11:00 and 5:00 Saturday. Turn your chips in for poker hands dealt at Cherokee Yacht Club between 6:00 & 8:00 Saturday evening at the “80th Anniversary Party” which will feature music by The Downbeat. It’s a party weekend on Grand Lake, for sure! Don’t forget to set your clock forward one hour before you go to bed Saturday night. Summertime is on the way!

Social media lit up with redneck country music fans attacking superstar Garth Brooks for supposedly supporting Bernie Sanders. It proves you can’t fix stupid. The ruckus arose because Garth wore a #20 football jersey with the name “Sanders” across the top to a recent concert in Detroit. Naturally, anybody with a lick of sense would know the Okie superstar was wearing the jersey in support of the former OSU and Detroit Lions running back BARRY Sanders…not the Vermont Senator who is running for President. Sheesh. At least Barry Sanders took things in stride. He posted a tweet asking Garth to be his running mate.

If you need additional evidence of the insufferable stupidity of hundreds of thousands of people, a new survey shows that 38% of beer drinkers would not order a Corona beer “under any circumstances” because of the totally unrelated but unfortunately similarly-named Coronavirus. Another 14% said they wouldn’t order a Corona beer “in public.” I guess that 14% believes if you drink the Corona in private, you won’t expose others to your own abject ignorance.

Pandemic Disease Idea — Turn every public drinking fountain into a Free Public Hand Washing Station. Because I certainly won’t be drinking from them now.

The weather for the Welcome Back Weekend looks great. We’ll have a little breeze, but the temperatures and sunshine will make up for it – highs in the mid-60s with lows around 50! Enjoy the kickoff of a new month and a new Grand Lake season at your favorite Grand Lake bar or restaurant. Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
