October 8 Random Observations of The Grand Lake Bum

Resilient Grand Lakers never gave up on the Har-Ber Village Chuck Wagon Dinner & Dance, the great Folds of Honor Classic at Shangri-La and the other weekend outdoor events – despite the best efforts of Mother Nature to put a “damper” on the fun. It was damp, all right, but that won’t deter Grand Lakers. The upcoming weekend weather forecast looks more encouraging for the Pelican Festival.

I wasn’t please about the outcome of the OU-Texas game, but my friends who were involved in downing an adult beverage at every score are still trying to recover. 93 points. WOW! For those who love defensive struggles, wait ‘til next year!

You know how exciting it is to find some money in the dryer while doing laundry? Redding, Connecticut Charles Dudley had a day like that last week – only a million times better. He was cleaning out his wallet when he ran across a Powerball ticket he purchased back in May. It was 23 days from expiring – but Charles managed to turn cash it in before it expired – and collect his MILLION DOLLARS!

What the hell is wrong with people? In Oregon, Richard Cota posted on Facebook, “Yay…not going to die anytime soon!!!” Then he began passing cars on the highway at a high rate of speed – and oftentimes in a “no passing” zone. What could possibly go wrong, right? Let’s just say his Facebook post turned out to be Fake News. He was 37.

In New Orleans last week, two guys mugged a lady, beat her up, and robbed her – then took selfies of themselves on the cell phone they stole from her. In case you’re not on top of the technology scene, we know there were two of them, we know they took selfies and, by the way, we also know who they are. The bandits apparently didn’t realize that the pictures they took on the stolen cell phone would be uploaded to the iCloud account of the true owner. Thugs are getting a little stupider ever day.

He may not be the stupidest druggie in Florida, but he’s got to be top five. Douglas Peter Kelly called the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office complaining that he had been tricked – someone sold him the wrong drug. He said he bought methamphetamine, but since he had a bad reaction to it for the first time, he figured it must be something else. He asked them to test it because he wanted to press charges against the dealer if it wasn’t what he ordered. Naturally, they told him to come on in and they would test it for him. They did. It was methamphetamine, all right. His bond is $5,000. You can’t fix stupid.

The weekend weather forecast looks pretty good – very fall-like! We may have a shower or two Saturday morning. Other than that, mostly sunny skies are called for along with highs in the mid-60s. It’ll be a little chilly in the evenings – around 50 Friday night, then mid-40s Saturday & Sunday nights. It doesn’t matter to me, though. I’m going to party on, anyway. That’s what we do! Have fun, but be safe; and, remember…wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
