September 16 Random Observation of The Grand Lake Bum
Another great Grand Lake weekend is in the record books (except may for my getting tricked into playing an inflatable guitar solo with Tim Robinson at Monkey Island Pub). On the plus side, who knew Shangri-La President & CEO Barry Willingham was such a great karaoke singer? The weekend ahead looks wonderful, as well – both the weather and the incredible variety of entertainment options. Folks who leave the lake after Labor Day miss September – arguable the busiest event month of the year on Grand!

If you’re watching that upcoming closing schedule for the Duck Creek Bridge across Highway 85, it’s now scheduled for the week of September 30. I’m pretty sure that’s right although we should be a little worried that the ODOT sign at the bridge calls it Highway 85A. Maybe they thought they were on the Bernice bridge? At any rate, the detour is looking pretty good. It shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Sometimes I wonder where the hell people come from – and I CERTAINLY wonder how some folks get elected to public office. In Tennessee, State Senator Kerry Roberts was arguing a point with a constituent when he said her beliefs were “a product of higher education” which he labeled “a liberal breeding ground.” He actually said getting rid of higher education would “save America.” I’m pretty sure that getting rid of higher education would just create more idiot fools like him.

Did you see all the sea planes flying around Grand Lake last Friday? It looked like a way cool convention when they all landed at Grand Lake Regional Airport on Monkey Island. You never know what you’ll find on Grand Lake!

The weather for the weekend ahead looks like September. Look for and light winds with high temperatures in the 80s and lows in the upper 60s. We may have a little shower Friday but, other than that, sunshine! Get out and have a fabulous time both on the lake and at your favorite club or restaurant. Remember, though… wherever you decide to party, be sure to buy a drink for the guy next to you. It could be me.
