Power for Progress…A weekly column from the Grand River Dam Authority Riverology 201
The Grand River Dam Authority is bringing back a unique summer workshop for area teachers and environmental educators in mid-July.
Called Riverology 201 the workshop will bring together a diverse group of water quality, water management, and conservation and education professionals for three full days of information sharing and hands-on learning. It will take place July 15-17 in Tahlequah. Early bird registration ($75) ends May 31. After that, participants will still have until July 3 to register at a cost of $100.
Participants in Riverology 201 will get a whole watershed experience along the beautiful Illinois River. They will learn how we impact our waters and will gain valuable new resources for the classroom. Activities are geared towards K-6th grade but can be adapted to all grades. Educators will receive 24 hours of professional development and an experience like no other!
With both the Grand River System and the Scenic Illinois River under its control, GRDA is committed to being a good steward of these important Oklahoma natural resources. That means caring not only for the waters but also working to help enhance the quality of life for all those who utilize these resources. Helping to educate others about these waters, through events like this workshop, is one of the ways GRDA works towards its stewardship goals.
The registration fee includes lodging, meals, a float trip on the Illinois River, a T-shirt, and lots of fun!
GRDA is co-sponsoring the event along with the Blue Thumb Program, OSU Cooperative Extension Services 4-H, Ag in the Classroom and the Illinois River Watershed Partnership.
For more information or questions on how to register, contact GRDA’s Jacklyn Smittle (Jacklyn.smittle@grda.com) or Jeri Fleming (jeri.fleming@grda.com).
GRDA is Oklahoma’s largest public power utility; fully funded by revenues from electric and water sales instead of taxes. Each day, GRDA strives to be an “Oklahoma agency of excellence” by focusing on the 5 E’s: electricity, economic development, environmental stewardship, employees, and efficiency.
