Why here

When Pensacola Dam was built in 1940 the river below it was left with a massive boulder field of granite chunks bigger than a truck. Nature made a rock crawling park by accident, and the off-road community has been coming for decades. Nationals-level events run here.

What to bring

  • Real rock crawler, buggy, or built UTV — this is not stock Jeep terrain
  • Recovery gear: winch, straps, tree savers, D-rings
  • Spotter — always run with a buddy
  • Water, food, and shade — there's none on the rocks
  • DOT-approved helmets recommended

Rules & safety

  • Stay clear of the dam exclusion zone — do not cross barriers
  • Water release from the dam can flood sections without warning — heed the sirens
  • Pack out what you pack in — this access exists because the community keeps it clean
