August 18 Observations from the Grand Lake Bum

Congratulations to Jack Moore on another incredibly successful year for one of Grand Lake’s most important fundraising events. The Mary Moore Charity Event & Golf Tournament held at Shangri-La last weekend raised more than $60,000 for the Special Olympics through the Home of Hope. In the year’s Jack has been organizing and hosting that tournament, he has raised more than half a million dollars for that awesome organization. Congratulations, too, to Dennis Patrick. He and his wife Melissa, through their popular Vinita restaurant, Clanton’s Café, have contributed more than $30,000 to the Home of Hope through the years. What another historic and important day! Thanks to all the sponsors and players! By the way, Jack’s grandson Timmy accompanied longtime Broadway performer Ron Young on trumpet for an absolutely goose-bump raising version of the National Anthem to open the event. Couldn’t have been better!

This is the weekend to get everything in order for the last big holiday of the summer. Get your boat and hour house cleaned up because, like it or not – company’s coming next weekend. It’s hard to believe it’s almost Labor Day!

If you’re thinking about a cruise next winter, but you don’t like a lot of packing, you might want to consider Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Big Nude Boat” adventure sailing out of Miami in February. The only clothing you’ll need is the required clothing for dinner service and when the ship is adjacent to other cruise ships in port. “Bare Boat” typically means you charter a boat without a captain…but, that’s not the case for the Big Nude Boat cruise. You actually spend most of the 11-day cruise naked. I couldn’t help but notice their itinerary includes celebrations for Valentine’s Day and Fat Tuesday. Something about everyone being naked to celebrate FAT Tuesday, just doesn’t sound right. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Anyway, no you know all your options for cruising in “Bare-a-dise.”

The official results are in. Yes, size matters. Here are the results of a recent survey of American women: 2 inches, “I can’t even hold it;” 3 inches, “Never been so unsatisfied;” 4 inches, “I’ve had bigger than that;” 5 inches, “Good, but I wish it was a bit bigger;” 6 inches, “Perfect;” 7 inches, “Love it;” 8 inches, “Wow! But I can’t have it all;” 9 inches, “Painful, but manageable;” 10 inches, “Too much pressure on my stomach.” Those are the official results of a women’s survey on the sizes of Subway Sandwiches! What did you think I was talking about?

Checking upcoming events, I noticed a “tractor pull” is coming up in Fairland next month. I guess I’m behind the times on the entertainment circuit. A tractor pull? Isn’t that what they’re supposed to do? I wouldn’t go to a “phone ring.”  Same thing.
